I think I'm one of 5 people in the world who adores The Nanny Diaries -- I consider it one of my favorite books, in fact, but WOW, Citizen Girl sucked. Well, unless in the last 50 pages it somehow managed to redeem itself -- I only got about 3/4 of the way through before I had to give it up. Not only was it a crappy story, it just seemed like such a rushed writing job. All of a sudden random characters would just appear for no reason and no purpose. I remember there was one character who was supposed to be like, the wise sage character who offers Girl advice, but she just showed up out of nowhere for no reason. Very lame.

I don't usually care for "mom" type chick lit, but I just read a pretty good one called An Uncommon Degree of Popularity; it gives a mother's perspective of a preteen daughter dealing with popularity issues (both sides of it), as well as how that affects the mom's relationship with the mothers of the popular girls. I thought it was dealt with realistically. The only part that seemed forced was the mom's relationship with her husband--kind of like the author stuck it in to the story to to add more drama when things seemed to slow down, but otherwise convienently ignored it the rest of the time. Overall, a decent read that I'd recommend.

I just plowed through books 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich (I've really come to enjoy these books, and they are such an easy read. I've read each one of them in a 24 hour period) and am about to start on Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin.

I bought Something Borrowed yesterday after hearing lots of good stuff about it here. I'm about half-way though and I am totally loving it! I was happy to hear there's a sequel, as well, though the thought of it being narrated by Darcy frightens me a little. Okay, a lot.

Maddiemoo, that's why I'm dragging my feet about buying it.

I actually liked "Something Blue" (the one narrated by Darcy) much better than "Something Borrowed."

I plowed through Something Borrowed and did find myself rooting for Rachel. I'm about 2/3 done with Something Blue and I'm ready to just mutilate Darcy. I hate people like her, I know they exist and have felt no sympathy for her whatsoever. In the part where she and Ethan go to the pub and she's introduced to Martin and Phoebe, I was cheering Phoebe on with her snide and snarky remarks. Bitch deserved it. I was also cheering for Ethan when he finally let her have it. . I made myself put it down last night so I'd have something to read at lunch today, but I'll probably have this one finished the tonight as well. So far, I like Something Borrowed much better, but that's probably because I like Rachel a lot more than I like Darcy. I bought a bunch of books on half.com that I'm eagerly waiting for. I can't believe how much I've read this week. If I finish Somethign Blue tonight, I'll have read 5 books in 5 days (and I'm not even on vacation - I work during the day). Oh, and carrier76 - try the library. They let you borrow them for free. That way, if you don't like it, you don't feel gypped. *ducks*

Har har. I don't have a library card. Because I'm lazy. Also, I kind of love staring at my book collection.

Oh, I hear ya. I have 3 five-shelf bookcases and 2 three-shelf bookcases full of books. I also just bought 5 more from half.com. Me and used bookstores are very, very dangerous. But, the library is nice too, for books you're just not sure about. ETA: Ok, just finished Something Blue. I loved how it ended. It was predictable but perfect. ;D
