Haven't seen the movie yet (don't think it has started over here) but I'm just happy that Sandra's got a hit movie AND is getting all the credit for it. Nothing against Ryan Reynolds but it's nice to see the female lead being credited for a film's success. I hate it when people say about, for example, Jennifer Aniston, that the only reason her films do well at the box office are Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughn/etc. Totally agree with you. I don't even like Aniston, but I find the notion that despite being on a hugely popular show she wouldn't have a strong fanbase nonsense. I've loved Sandra since Speed, so I'm thrilled she still has such box office appeal.

But I think Sandra was the top-billed star on The Proposal. It was her movie. I don't think the same could be said for Aniston in the Break-up or Along Came Polly, etc.

I'm not even Aniston's biggest fan but I do think those film's successes (?) were also due to her. She wouldn't be given big starring roles if she wasn't. Oh, and I've also been a Sandra fan since Speed!

The Proposal was funny, good light summer fare. And I'm glad that Sandra Bullock has a hit on her owns. I just really like her...and I can't wait to see All About Steve.

Oh, and I've also been a Sandra fan since Speed! IMO, it's still different. I think comparing Ryan Reynolds' input in the success of The Proposal is comparable to Aniston's in the movies I mentioned. They're still the supporting actors in another's movie/vision. (As Bullock was a producer and Ben Stiller is always heavily creatively involved in his recent movies)

Because Aniston does such heavy promotion for her movies (I can't even recall seeing Owen Wilson during the promotion of Marley and Me) I kind of figured she deserved at least some credit for the movies doing well. The amount of promotion she does kind of makes me associate the movies as much with her as the lead guy.
I want to see The Proposal but I don't really like Ryan Reynolds. I don't actually have anything against him (he seems nice enough) but he's kind of...plastic-looking or something. It creeps me out a bit.

Good point - Aniston does do a lot of publicity for her movies and seems to genuinely want to do it (well, I guess it is part of the job, after all). For Marley & Me, wasn't that around the time just after Owen tried to commit suicide? Perhaps he was taking it easy on the promotional duties due to his mental health.
That said, in comparing the two I still think of Aniston as more of a supporting actor and Bullock as more of a STAH! Perhaps it's just because Aniston got her break through TV, while the first time most people were aware of Sandra was in Speed. I think Sandra established herself as a money maker early on, while Jen really has to work more for it because she wasn't always a movie star (not to say that Bullock doesn't work as hard; I just don't think she has to.

Also, I think Sandra produces most/ or all of her most recent movies, which gives her more clout/pwer/money, I'd think.

I'm always pleased when actors are producing their own stuff. It show they actually have a vested interest in their project and they often seem to have more respect in the industry and more opportunity to do a little more of what they want. See: Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore.
