I understand. But it's remarkable to me that I've spent years lurking various corners of the web for most of my cubicle-dwelling days and I managed to miss it entirely.

My favorite clip of all time. It never fails to make me smile through my tears. If you don't like it, you are not my friend.

Hahaha! I saw this video today and immediately thought of Dwan and her disdain for the Chicken Dance. And in case you were wondering, no, that wasn't really the music she used for the performance.

So Viacom's suing YouTube for ONE. BILLION. DOLLARS. Claiming copyright infringement. In my mind, to not differentiate between clips and full content, the suit will accomplish several things: 1) The people who would watch teaser material for Viacom product and then purchase Viacom product will now not see the teaser material and not buy the Viacom product 2) The people who would watch teaser material for Viacom product would not be able to share and hype the viacom product with their friends, who in turn would not buy the Viacom product 3) The people who would watch low-quality Flash feeds on YouTube of Viacom product will now seek other ways to acquire Viacom product in a totally more portable medium, like torrents or DVD copying. So, bravo, Viacom!

I wonder whether Viacom and others who file similar lawsuits realize that Youtube is pretty much the direction in which media will shift over the next 5 years and try their best to squeeze every last cent out of their own business model, or do they simply not get it? Pretty much the only way for media conglomerates to maintain their levels of relevance over the next decade is to collaborate with services like Youtube's - otherwise it will be a slow, painful death.
On a lighter note, Youtube is like crack. I'm awaiting the possible appearance of kittens, so I spent almost all this weekend on Youtube. I searched for videos of cat sex to see what kind of fun my cat recently had. Then I watched tons of videos of cat birth (the kittens look, more than anything, just like big turds being shat out), and IMed the links to my parents for them to watch what kind of assistance the owners provide, from rotating a stuck kitten, to "pretend licking" to induce a kitten to breathe when his mom just ignores him. From there, I found more videos of cat sex (through the similar videos tab). Then I moved on to videos of kittens playfighting, then playfighting with puppies, then cats interacting with other animals, like dogs, rabbits, rats, and hamsters. Then I watched videos of lion and leopard cubs and envied the people who got to hold them and play with them. When the weekend was coming to an end and no schoolwork got done, I found the strength to close the Youtube browser window.

They are so stupid. I realize the problem with having entire, full-length movies and episodes and all that copied onto YouTube. Really, I do. But YouTube has also sparked the interest in tons of things that wouldn't have been so hyped otherwise. Without YouTube, I think they actually stand to lose more. I doubt people don't buy a movie/show because they can't watch the entire thing in crappy quality in 400 parts.

It's hysterical to me that Viacom is being so short sighted on this. Come on, don't be idiotic... you once gave the world MTV... grow with the youth. I can't help but think there will be a backlash to this.
