I really love Bret Easton Ellis. I actually saw him and Jay McInerney do readings of their books on two seperate occasions in Toronto. There was a Q and A after McInerney's and someone asked about BEE and how McInerney felt about being a part of Lunar Park or something and his response was as far as I remember, that he was over it, that he happened to write a book that was similar to BEE's content and it was no big deal. The differences in their personalities were neat though; Ellis was so calm and confident and kind of sexay while McInerney was nervous and all fidgety.
I like them both and their writings though.

I'm making my way through his books at the moment -- the bookstore didn't have Less Than Zero so I had to start with Rules of Attraction. I thought it was pretty good, though admittedly I was confused by the "Guy from LA" references at first. It's interesting to read about what you guys thought about <<Sean and Paul's relationship, or lack thereof. I kind of assumed that they really were in a relationship, but Sean simply glossed over it in his accounts because he didn't want to admit to it. It never even occurred to me that it was all in Paul's imagination, though the movie seems to imply that that is indeed the case.>>
I'm about a fourth of the way through American Psycho and I'm liking it a lot so far. Admittedly I haven't gotten to the really icky parts yet, but I have this weird appreciation for fictional violence in movies and literature, so I'm strangely looking forward to it. The Business Card competition totally slayed me, though -- too funny.

I have Amaerican Psycho and while I enjoy it, it can be difficult to get past him talking so much about fashion and materialistic things. I mean sometimes it's a whole two pages worth taking about "double breasted" coats and "honey almond face wash". Honestly I'm a female and even I don't give a crap. We get the idea, Patrick. Really. We do.
I also ordered Lunar Park and Rules of Attraction since they were on sale at Amazon, but I haven't read them yet. Chuck Palahniuk is next.

I loved Lunar Park. It's such a weird hybrid of horror (and it is genuinely scary), satire, and family relationships, but it really works. I do like Less Than Zero and Rules of Attraction, but Bret really hit his stride with American Psycho. That, Lunar Park, and Glamorama are my faves.
