I loved this book, but know I'm going to get the titlle wrong: Dr. Norrell and Jonathan Strange. Usually with a very long book there are bound to be spots that drag a bit, but that didn't happen with me at any point. As I was getting towards the end, I was sorry to know I'd be finished soon. It's about two rival magicians. And it's not like The Prestige where technilogical genius is behind the magic -- No! These guys are actually magical!
And Broken For You was my other favorite from this year. It's about an elderly woman who finds out she's dying. She's been a recluse for years. The news that she has limited time spurs her to begin inviting random strangers to live with her in her huge house. It's one of those sad/happy dark/light books. I re-read it within weeks of reading it the first time, and I never do that.

Can you link any articles questioning the accuracy of the book? Here's one. There is a good one at Salon. But you have to go through an introductory advertisement. Then do a search for "A Woman in Berlin".
