I read Elvis and Me about 10 times in 5th and 6th grade, lol. I don't really know why. My mom had a copy from the library and I just couldn't put it down. I need to read it as an adult. I don't remember her claiming they didn't have sex til marriage. I remember she said they shared a bedroom---I'm supposed to believe he wasn't hittin it? Has anyone ever written about whether or not he was good in bed? The more I know about his hangups the more I think he must've been a dud. I remember Cybill Sheppard wrote that he didn't go downtown, but that's as much as I can recall.
I read a book by his cousin(I know, I know. But I had an Elvis phase in junior high for some odd reason) and he wrote that Elvis liked them young and preferred them to wear white panties and bras---needed them looking as innocent and virginal as possible.

On a recent episode of Top Chef Masters, Gael Greene talked briefly about a dalliance with Elvis when she was younger. From what she was saying he was very quick ifyouknowwhatImean.

Currently reading "Ava Gardner: Love Is Nothing" by Lee Server. It's good, and really compelling. I didn't realize she was such a hot mess. WOW. This book is also making me hate Frank Sinatra more than I already did.

I got the impression that he was into "technical virginity". It seems they fooled around quite a bit without penetration, which I could maybe believe in light of the rest of his control freak personality. Oooh, that sounds interesting, carrier76! From just a casual interest in the Rat Pack I get the impression that he was a dick.

Elvis has the advantage of having enthusiastic fans, leaving behind a ton of material, and scholarly biographers.
OTOH, I've read both Steven Tyler's and Weiland Scott's (Stone Temple Pilots) recent autobiographies, and both were awful. They seemed like they were going for a stream of consciousness Keith Richards style, but neither told me much about the man, his demons, or his music.

I'm curious about Scott Weiland's book because his ex-wife (I think they're not together anymore) Mary Forsberg Weiland's book is fabulous.

His book didn't tell me much. He doesn't dish on Mary, in fact it seems he still loves her. He does relate some druggy episodes between them but that's par for the course. I was rather shocked they got together when he was 23 and she 16; he cloaked it in "twu wuv" and "soulmate" terms, but it's still an adult preying on a child.

I read some excerpts from Mary's book on Amazon (after you guys pointed me in that direction!) and now I am intrigued. Going to order it!

From what she says in her book when they met and she was 16 she was madly in love with him but he was with someone else and Not Interested-they remet again when she was legal an hooked up. Then she went on tour with him and found out that he was married (to the woman he was with when they met) and hadn't told her. Very odd, the whole thing.
