I have it on pre-order from Amazon (the libraries here aren't so great, they mostly just get the latest bestsellers). I hope it comes in time for Thanksgiving weekend!

I ordered two copies right from the South Dakota Historical Society Press. They said they are anticipating a November 14th ship date. I'm in Canada so they said it would probably take about 2 weeks. Ahhh!

Yeah what is up with it being out of stock everywhere? I thought it might be part of the Amazon-publisher dispute but no physical stores are stocking this and none of the libraries in Toronto have a copy either. I looked at the publisher and it is put out by the South Dakota State Historical Society which is presumably a pretty small organization. They said they weren't anticipating such demand and they should have more copies by mid-January. Crazy!

My library was supposed to send me a copy last week, but I still haven't gotten it yet. Bring it on, people! I want my LIW fix!

The Ingalls family's treasured novel Millbank is available to read online. I received Pioneer Girl from the library. I read it for hours on a road trip today. The opening description of how Laura and Rose collaborated and turned the manuscript into both the Little House series and a number of Lane novels is fascinating. I've read through The Long Winter portion of Pioneer Girl. The most interesting aspect so far is to see how Laura added dialogue and description as she grew more experienced as a juvenile fiction writer. Little Squatter on the Osage Diminished Reserve is referenced several times in Pioneer Girl as commentary on Wilder's treatment of Native Americans.

The Ingalls family's treasured novel Millbank is available to read online. The doors and windows of Millbank were closed. Crape streamed from the doorknobs...
