I adored The Lost Continent, possibly because I'd been to so many of the places he talked about at around the same time he did his trip. I've often wished he would revisit that one, see how things have changed again since he wrote it.
I also greatly enjoyed his bear obsession in A Walk in the Woods. Huh, I wonder if Stephen Colbert read that one...

I really enjoy Bryson (particularly his stuff on Britain and language), but I recommended A Walk in the Woods to my boyfriend and he found Bryson slightly toolish. Some of my other friends also can't stand him. I just think he's a nice, light, humorous read. Different strokes and all.
I saw his new book on Shakespeare in the bookstore the other day. Has anyone had a chance to read it yet? I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but you have to wonder how many new things can be said about Will at this point.

o/tI gotta second the Paul Theroux love. He's a crap fiction writer, but his travel writing's great. I think Bryson's books on the English language are poorly researched. Vivian Cooke, an English EFL teacher does a much better job
