Spill! What's the point of even bringing it up if you're not going to follow through? I'm not trying to be mean or anything, it's just that the title of the thread is "Busted!" not "Guess Who."

Seriously, the 'ohhhhh, I have insider knowledge the rest of you don't' thing is really annoying. Just don't post if you can't share.

I just read that Opal Mehta book out of morbid curiosity, and in addition to the Megan McCafferty stuff, I noticed set pieces blatantly lifted from both Clueless and Mean Girls.

I hadn't heard of The Secret, but now know that I don't have to buy it, because you guys here told me The Secret.... It does remind me of another Oprah sure fire way to make and hold onto your money. Are you ready? "Treat Your Money With Respect, and It will Grow and Multiply." That's it..... Literally, if you wad up your bills and have them floating around the bottom of your purse, you are damned to be a pauper. If you take the bills and place them presidents faces out and organize in order of large bills to small, you will be blessed with riches. Your money knows who respects and values it. It will stay clear of anyone who abuses it. Between that and The Secret, all you need is to have positive thoughts, keep your change purse neat, (I guess wear clean underwear, but that kind of defeats the purpose of The Secret, because you wear clean underwear in case you get hit by a car...so I guess the third rule is to wear dirty tattered underwear) and wealth and happiness will be yours!

Martha Beck, who writes a column in Oprah magazine, wrote 2 memoirs - one about her baby son with Down's Syndrome and one about being abused by her father, a famous Mormon professor. Her ex-husband says she tried to sell the baby book as fiction, didn't get anywhere and so sold it as memoir. I heard the same thing about A Million Little Pieces. James Frey shopped his manuscript to every single publishing house as fiction and they all passed. Changed it to a memoir, shops it to the same publishers, and suddenly gets a deal. You'd think after that fiasco, Oprah's people would have been on the lookout for an embarassment like The Education of Little Tree.

For anybody who wants to hear more about the JT Leroy story, here is a pretty lengthy write-up. It's a recent article. Oh, and there is a picture of Laura Albert with her 10-year-old son, and they're both flipping off the camera. How nice.
