I don't understand why any aging person, especially someone as thin as Demi is, would remove fat from their face? Catherine Deneuve is the one who said that at a certain age a woman has to choose between her face and her ass. The less body fat you have, the more your face is going to look like Skeletor. I don't know a lot about plastic surgery but that procedure sounds crazy to me.

And yes, the only thing she didn't discuss is her plastic surgery. I agree with Catherine Deneuve.

I don't know a lot about plastic surgery but that procedure sounds crazy to me. I could sort of understand a younger, shortsighted person wanting to get chiseled cheekbones while they still have youthful softness. I guess this procedure recently had an uptick because people were trying to get Bella Hadid’s look. But is makes very little sense for someone older, which could suggest that it wasn’t the procedure in this case. Or that her surgeon is just a hack. ETA: Another explanation I saw was that she experienced a common complication from a facelift called a “ cross-cheek depression”, aka “the joker line”: None of the pictures in the article I linked looked as severe as Demi’s though.

I think it was in the Madonna thread (not sure) where we were discussing the incremental nature of plastic surgery. You tweak, and then tweak, and then tweak some more. You get used to fixing these "imperfections" as they appear. When you get used to seeing yourself all the time you just noticed the difference between A and B, B and C, etc. Small changes. But suddenly it's really clear that Face A and Face E are nowhere near each other and but it's too late to realize you've gone too far. That's why I really think I will never get started with cosmetic procedures (and it's not something I want to prioritize with the budget I have)--I don't want to get on that train because it sounds like it's really hard to get off. I think it trains you to be unsatisfied with your looks.
I still think Demi has beautiful eyes. Actually, she's still a beautiful woman but one who's had a ton of plastic surgery.
I have hooded eyes and my mom had to have that eyelid procedure you get when your lids droop over your eyes and affect your field of vision. I've always assumed I would get that procedure also when the time came, since it's really a matter of being able to see versus pure vanity. And mom's procedure wasn't all that aggressive--she didn't have the deer in the headlights look. But she has a ton of problems with dry eyes now and regrets getting it done. So I don't know what I'll decide if I get to that point now.

Once someone starts on that road of chemical and surgical "enhancement", there's no turning back, it seems. As mentioned above, they tweak and tweak, and then the thinner abs make the arms look thick, and the lifted eyes make the mouth look old, and on it goes.
It's been compared to renovating a house. After you get a new kitchen, the living room looks terrible, so you do that next. And on it goes until every room has been redone but by the time you finish the last room, the original kitchen reno looks dated and worn. Only difference is that most people don't turn their house interiors into freak shows.
Seems all the procedures in the world can't create contentment.

I blame the lack of ethics in the plastic surgery industry, particularly in LA. They manipulate insecure people to keep getting procedure after procedure on every part of their bodies, acting as if it's all just standard grooming. They sell "cosmetic treatments" as if they are barely more serious than something you'd get at a day spa.
That guy from Modern Family that played Hayley's boyfriend, Dylan, spent all of his money carving up his face, going from a really cute guy to a wreck. He had body dysmorphia and there were doctors totally willing to keep selling him new surgical ways to "fix" what he thought was wrong with his face. They should be more accountable.

I don't know how one gets the "Joker line" but I do think some kind of fillers in the upper cheeks must be involved in Demi's look. It does also remind me of Madonna, what, a decade ago when she was quite thin and had just gotten cheek implants. Not a great look.
Maybe it will settle more?

Someone I follow on Instagram reposted something from a cosmetic surgeon talking about fillers and I wondered what prompted it, since this person usually doesn’t talk about cosmetic procedures. I’m guessing this was probably why.
But what was interesting is the surgeon said it is pretty common for patients to get what he calls “filler blindness” where the patient gets fillers, loves it, but then starts to find all sorts of other little flaws that need to be filled and then some body dysmorphia kicks in, and they keep coming back for more and more fillers, and honestly don’t realize they have Joker face. And for whatever reason, people keep giving them the fillers.
He said he’s turned patients away who want too much filler by telling them, “My goal is always to give my patients a look that is balanced, natural, and youthful. If I do what you are asking, your face will be none of those things.” And he’s sure that 90% of the time his patients just walk out the door and find someone else who will do it. And he suspects they do it for the money or because they don’t want to lose patients (he suspects in some cases they just have a shitty sense of aesthetics and don’t realize they are giving their patients Joker face).
Women like Demi and Madonna probably do have body dysmorphia and no one wants to be the guy who tells Madonna or Demi “No” and that’s how they end up with those faces.
