I know my perfectionism is going to be a major obstacle. It's so hard for me to just keep typing; my instinct is to go back and reword things. I'm doing NaNoWriMo almost more as an exercise in committing to words and not looking back (and something to strengthen my flabby, flaccid self-discipline). I've got major Pre-NaNo panic!

Good luck to everyone who's doing this.
I tried NaNoWriMo two years ago as a sophomore. I missed the official start so I worked from November 14 to December 14, which bumped right up against finals week. That was a bad, bad idea. I wrote about 40,000 words and burned out, almost couldn't finish my schoolwork.
I wish this wasn't in November.

Is everyone ready for this? My big grand idea that I have been thinking about for 2 years went down the drain when I found out my husband lent out the book I was going to refer to for geographical and historical facts. I am very excited and I may just get up at 12:01am and get started. I have no idea what I am going to write about now, I am just going to wing it.
Maybe I'll just write about the Greecies. Good Luck and Happy typing everyone!

Benni, this may be an absolutely ridiculous suggestion, but what do you think about just writing it anyway and filling in the geographical/historical details later? Or is it not just details but vital plot diggety? (If so, could you borrow it from the library?)

GNC, you have inspired me. I signed up. I need something to kick my ass into gear, and this is the thing to do it. I will have a romance novel done by the end of the month, dammit.

Benni, do you know the name of the book? Does the local library have it, or is it too obscure?
I'm ready. I think. In fact, I updated my website, and Blathered about it, including a mutherfuckin' YOOGE playlist of Literary Music... certainly the most comprehensive one I've ever seen (she said modestly, patting herself on the back and wrenching her neck in the effort).
Good luck, gang!

Benni, maybe it's a good thing - it can be hard to do Nano with an idea you really care about, just because Nano is so very quantity-over-quality. I have no idea what I'm writing about either! I just wrote 2600 words about finding a hippopotamus in one's apartment building. What that has to do with anything, I don't know. I'll figure it out by the end of the month. Good luck everyone! Take advantage of the "oh-my-god-I'm-writing-a-novel!" first day buzz and crank out enough words to get a nice head start!

I'm gonna set up a little writing nest in my home office this evening. No TV, a nice view outside (which will help on the weekends), my iPod hooked up to speakers piping some Bach or something into the room, and I think I'm gonna swap out the rolling office chair for the comfy chair.
Go, Nefertiti! Hell, go, all of us!

Damn you inner editor! I was going to not do nano this year, but then the phrase "God hates a quiter" entered my head so now I have to somehow insert that, and given the fact that I just finished readong Coupland's Jpod, I now have cubicle barn politics in my head. I am sure it will devlop into a zombie slashfest somewhere around the 20K word count.
