I really hope they asked Zeke if he was ok with that being aired, even though I know technically they were free to do so.
I liked Varner, but he really should have known better and never even considered doing what he did. I lost a lot of respect for him.

That was really hard to watch. Was this a Survivor first? Like, we don't need to vote just, GTFO.

That was really hard to watch. Was this a Survivor first? Like, we don't need to vote just, GTFO. They did it to Brandon Hantz when he lost his mind at camp and everyone was afraid of him. They skipped the immunity challenge and just voted him out right there. Last night's tribal was surreal. What on earth did Varner think was going to happen when he did that?? And Zeke's completely blank face was awful to watch. There is an article somewhere that indicates that he was given the option of not having that aired, but I'm not sure how the show would have edited around it since it clearly dominated the talk at tribal and they didn't do the written vote.

I think they did that with Osten too ... Probst was disgusted with what a quitter he was and just told him to get out. No torch snuffing, nothing.
Zeke broke my heart.

I cannot believe Varner did that...
and THEN tried to make it all about himself and what a great person he was. I feel like I've been punched in the gut. I don't think I've ever seen Jeff so shaken.
Wow. Zeke was so amazing in his forgiveness at the end. Way more than Varner deserved.

Tonight's tribal council...it left me both speechless and in tears. I have never cried watching Survivor until last night. The family reunions are nice and all but they don't get to me in that way. Last night was just so brutally painful. I felt so bad for Zeke that I bawled. I took solace though in his teammates being so supportive of him. In 15 minutes, we got to see how horrible and how amazing people can be to one another.

I haven't been able to keep up this year. What was the horrible, gut-wrenching thing that happened?

I haven't been able to keep up this year. What was the horrible, gut-wrenching thing that happened? Mugsy, at Tribal, Varner outed Zeke as being trans. He was trying to claim that Zeke was "deceptive" by keeping something about his private life private.

Ah, that was a dick move. I liked Jeff Varner back in the day.

Ah, that was a dick move. I liked Jeff Varner back in the day. I went into this season lowkey rooting for Varner because I've always found his "genteel, smooth-talking, Southern lawyer" drawl rather charming. I wasn't paying too much attention to the episode and was actually texting when Varner decided to reveal Zeke's personal medical history on national TV for the chance at $1M. I looked up from my phone when I heard some members of Nuku weeping and wondered what happened. I think the doubling-down, lame excuses, followed by sobbing as if he was the victim were as disgusting as the original sin. I read that he's been fired from job. It seems fitting that treachery outside the bounds of the game has consequences outside the game.
