That was not the send off I was expecting for Eric.

I did laugh more than I thought I would. I loved the Star Wars bit. I don't know if it was because of Eric & Donna or because we all know what happens in The Empire Strikes Back. The scene with Topher and Kurtwood did not disappoint. I did cry. (Just a little). I thought the outro tag with Kelso and the Benny Hill theme was cute. Granted it's glory days were gone for awhile now and FOX sucks for allowing the show to continue without the main character but it was still an enjoyable episode.

So, did anyone else watch last night's season premiere? Dissapointing, and I am a big fan of the show. The writers seem so bored with the characters, and it's as if they are writing the scenes while referencing the 'Great Big Book of TV Cliches'. I won't be sad that the show is ending. I hope that Kitty and Red get their own (good) shows after this - they are the best things about the show.

So did Charlie really die by falling off the water tower? Hyde marrying a stripper? Didn't we already do that with Fez marrying Lori. I love Kitty and Red it's about time they have a life.

This show needs to be put out of it's misery.

I came late to That 70's Show - I didn't watch an ep until last year when I was laid up with the flu.
I started off with the later seasons, and while I didn't think the show was particularly great, just standard sitcom fare, it was amusing enough and I didn't get the hostility towards Randy or all the complaints.
Then, I caught the early seasons on FX and now I know what all the complaints are about. The show used to be so good, with real characters, not sitcom stereotypes, underneath the humor it touched on serious issues but not in a heavy-handed way, and above all, the show had real heart.
WTF happened? Was it writer burnout or network interference?
All the characters become caricatures, the intelligence disappeared and by the end of the run, the 'kids' looked 30.
I'm going to pretend that Season 8 never happened, Charlie didn't die because Fez tried to save the beer instead of his friend, Donna never threw a rock at a girl's face and boasted that it left a scar, (when the hell did smart, ambitious Donna turn into a sociopath?) Hyde didn't reject Jackie because she wanted to get married then elope with a stripper and try to make it work, Eric didn't dump Donna by mail, etc.
Anyhoodle, T7S is a classic example of a show that went on too long. Too bad, if they'd allowed the younger ones to keep growing up instead of keeping them in a 1979 limbo for 5 seasons or ended the show several seasons earlier it would have been remembered as a great show.

My guess is that the show never got over a bunch of writers leaving. At the peak of the show I think Conan O'Brien and a bunch of other talented writers were working for the show. I don't remember which season because it's been so long since I watched, but at one point there was a mass writer exodus, and the tone of the show changed so much because of it. It's like it was traumatized and never had good writing again...

I loved the show but it should have ended with season five.

After about the 5th season, I wanted to stuff Fez into a blender. Damn creepy bastard.
