All I can say to that is: Huh. (Not "Huh?!" -- just "Huh.") I like Ted, and I'm sure he'll do a good job, but, man, Shalhoub or Lithgow would've been fantastic.

I was meh on this last night and I'm still meh. Just doesn't seem a good fit. I thought he was fine on Damages as Forbisher, but I wasn't overwhelmed by his performance.

I liked Fishburne -- I'm annoyed that CBS dumped him. It might just be time to let the show die a natural death, y'know?

Or completely revamp the cast. We have gone as far as we can with this crew.

I think the quality of episodes has gone downhill over the years. I do think the loss of Peterson & the various cast changes has hurt the show. Some actors show up one episode and are gone the next. I was excited when they signed Katee Sackhoff to the show but I can probably count on 3 fingers the number of episodes she appeared it.
I love, love marathons of the old episodes on a weekend. My faves were either episodes where you had a bunch of really interesting cases or where the whole team worked together on one case. I'm thinking of episodes like the showgirl murders, the high school jock & cheerleader who went missing, gumdrops where the young daughter was the only survivor of a bunch of teens killing her family for their marijuana stash. The only episode that has really grabbed me over the last few seasons was the Squuegel episode. Literally gave me nightmares. I swear I read they were bringing the character back but instead we get boring Nste Haskell.
I never really liked Fishbourne's character which is a shame because he's a great actor. I think they tried to make Ray a little too weird - all that crap about murder being in his DNA. If they let Danson be a quirky team leader in the vein of Grissom then I could see it working.

I dislike when procedurals like CSI have overlapping story arcs. Often there are so many eps between the shocking! reappearance of some serial killer that I forget half of the original story. I don't watch this for some deep ongoing story; I like it wrapped up neatly in one ep. That becomes an even bigger issue in syndication, when you tend to watch a random ep just for kicks here and there.
Because I watch just for the plots, I'm not really hung up on cast changes. I miss Grissom a lot, but the cast is big enough to move on. Nick is my favourite, and I like Sara too (which I think is an unpopular opinion). Danson will be fine, although his increasingly cro-magnon forehead is a bit disconcerting.

Or worse yet, a crossover episode with some other show and you only get to see one half in syndication. I hate that.

Keep the two coroners though. After all these years they are still my faves.

It's been awhile since we've chatted about the franchise, but looks like those crazy CSI producers are at it again! James Van der Beek to star in CSI: CyberSeriously?! Just stop already! Miami is over, OG is just hanging around like L&O 1.0 and I think only L.A. is still hanging around. Did we really need another one? And with Dawson 2.0? <sigh>

I stopped watching the original CSI years ago and could never get into the other ones, but this one sounds pretty interesting to me. It's a different sort of crime, and since we're all slaves to cyberspace, it has more of an 'it could happen to you' potential than some of truly ridiculous CSI episodes. It's just a matter of finding a way to incorporate action into it.
