I've seen it before, but I watched it last night again when it was on. I love that episode. *"You'd have to get a mortgage! So would I. Well, we could get share. Or not! ... Anyway!" And I love the "I've seen good gods, and bad gods, and demi-gods, and would-be gods, that whole pantheon. And if I believe in one thing -- just one thing! I believe in her." Aw. Oh, and of course "If you hear from them again... If you speak to Rose. Tell her.... Ah, she knows." And then he finds the TARDIS! Yay! And then I love the look on Rose's face when she hears his voice. And then their leaping hug! And then "the stuff of legends," which was the last line they filmed together (they seem to film out of order). And of course "it said I would die in battle." Dum dum dummm!
Oh, and the music that plays when he finds the TARDIS is some of my favourite ever.
I have been reading a lot of criticism of Rose on LiveJournal lately -- she lives in orbit around the Doctor, she's totally passive unless he's not there, she worships him, neither of them take anything seriously and they act like children (the 10th doctor, that is, not the ninth), blah blah blah. But I don't care. I love both of them, and I like Ten better than I like Nine. They've also been going on about how he committed genocide omg!! and we're supposed to think he's adorable and forget about the killing, but genocide!! But... the Racnoss were evil? So shut it (is my response).
*Warning: quotes are from memory and are therefore inaccurate but close

Who are these fools that I may slay them? (No, don't tell me, I'm in a vile mood and I'd probably actually do it.)
ALL the companions live in orbit around the Doctor. Hence the name "companion". Geez, it's not like she can get a career bounding around in space any other way. Sure, she worships him, but he's pretty crazy about her, isn't it? It's not like it's one-sided.
And I really fail to see how she's passive in his absence, because she's always doing stuff. Mr Erinnyes, who is a lifelong Doctor Who geek, says she's about the most active companion he's ever had. Not to mention, she's only nineteen or twenty years old at this point. I know some people don't like Rose, but I do, a lot, and this is all really stupid criticism. And the fact is, the show is called Doctor Who, not Rose Tyler In Space, so she can't save the day all the time, or it'd undermine the entire premise of the show.
And while it may be genocide to kill an entire race, since it was the plan of the Racnoss to commit genocide on the humans, I don't really care. Kill those spidery sons of a bitch.
Besides, goodies in fantasy are always committing or attempting genocide. What, Buffy wasn't trying to kill all the vampires? Dean and Sam on Supernatural aren't trying to kill all the demons? Aragorn et al don't want to kill all the orcs? And why is this okay? BECAUSE THEY ARE PROTECTING THE HUMANS, DUMBASSES.
I do think looking at the underlying moral issues of things is fascinating, and I think there are potentially interesting discussions of the Doctor's behaviour (like his reaction to the Prime Minister's decision to destroy the aliens who had come to take over the earth in "The Christmas Invasion") but getting het up because he drowned a bunch of crazy spider freaks who were totally going to kill every human on earth is just dumb. You might as well get upset because they offed the mega demon in "The Satan Pit" because he was an endangered species.
/end rant. Sorry, I really am in a foul mood.

There's a huge amount of hate in LJ land for Rose and for Series 2 and I don't get any of it.
Rose was insanely young and sheltered when she met the Doctor and the Doctor was recovering from the Time War when he met her. I do think there is a deep undercurrent of codependency in their relationship but I think it's more accurately explained by where they were in their lives when they met and not because of some deep character flaw either of them have. I think Rose showed huge signs of becoming more independant and while it's pure speculation on my part I'm sure she's kicking at the alt!Torchwood in alt!London.
As far as people complaining about Ten or Series 2 I can only say that I clearly watched a complete different season b/c with the exception of "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Fear Her" I loved every single episode. Christopher Eccleston made a great doctor and if he had stayed for a few more seasons I would have been happy but David Tennent has this extra spark of something that makes him more "The Doctor" to me. One of the main complaints I hear is that Ten and Rose had this carefree, kids having fun on the playground that is time and space attitude to everything they did but I really liked that about them.

I agree with both of you, obviously. ;D
Exactly! That is what the good guys always do, as you pointed out. AND he did the Doctory thing by offering them a chance to save themselves and go to another planet, and they didn't take it, because they wanted to kill the humans! So... too bad, Racnoss. I honestly don't understand how people can get upset about that. I try not to read the criticism because it makes me feel bad about liking Rose, S2 and Ten, but I am curious about what people think.
I agree. Basically, everything those people complain about is what I love about their relationship.

I have a theory that sometimes people who are not smart but think they are smart pretend that they are smart by arguing about things in a way they think that people who are smart argue about them; but they fuck it up. So they know that intelligent people might want to question the moral decisions of the Doctor, and they think, "hey, what's bad? I know what's bad! GENOCIDE! That's really bad!" And they miss the point that that is (a) normal behaviour for fantasy heroes, (b) not so bad in defence of a comparative helpless group of people, and (c) not really the most morally questionable decision made by the Doctor. Hence, LaconicChick, I would argue that these people are not smart, and you can ignore them with equanimity. Because coming from me, that obviously has the ring of truth. I love Chris Eccleston, but I'm like you guys - I love Tennant more. I don't know what it is about him, I just love him. And although I think that he and Rose enjoy their work, I don't think I'd agree that they're just playing around. Why shouldn't they enjoy what they do? Besides, it's not like it was all happyhappyjoyjoy, there was a lot of fear and anxiety as well. The Doctor always enjoys what he does. And yeah, I totally think that Rose is off kicking ass in alt!Torchwood. She's not some passive ninny who's just going to wait around for life. She was young, and she had a lot to learn, but she's a strong, passionate and intelligent woman. I love how they love each other. It's rare to see that in a show (or in life for that matter), where people love and trust each other utterly and without fear.

Not that I'm going to be able to see it until it comes to the U.S. of course...because I wouldn't go hunting for it or anything like that...nope. Not me.

Oh, no. None of us will see it until then. Of course not. And I'm certainly not glad that we're 8 hours behind them, so 7 p.m. there (I think that's when it airs) is 11 a.m. here, which means it should be online by early to mid-afternoon... oh no.
