The US version of The Office will be premiering next Thursday (but is scheduled to air on Tuesdays thereafter).
After the Coupling (US) debacle a few years ago, I'm not holding my breath. However, I was quite surprised that the latest issue of EW rated the US version a B. This might be due to the fact that, with the exception of the first episode, all of the scripts are original. Plus, unlike Coupling, it doesn't look like the cast was hired just for their looks, but quite possibly their talent. (I did like Steve Carrell when he was on The Daily Show and in Anchorman and Bruce Almighty).
Well, we shall see.

Yes, I'm really, really hoping that this doesn't end up sucking!!! It looks good so far based on the website:It also looks like the storyline is pretty much the same as the BBC version.

I dunno about this one, I thought the preview they showed of it looked just awful. With the cheerleaders joke. I was 1/2 paying attention, but it looked lame.

I hope it does bomb because, really . . . what's the point? IMHO, the fact that it's being remade is kinda insulting. The original version won two Golden Globes for best comedy and best actor but, still, it's not American. If it's funny now it'll be even better once we Americanise it. Guh.

The fact that they are remaking it shows how completely how of touch NBC has become. The original series is subtle and brilliant. Not to mention Mackenzie and Martin, and even Ricky at times bring the British goofyHOT. The show is now going to be 13 episodes of watered-down, recylced Office Space gags and the Dawn/Tim relationship will be turned into soap opera-style overkill. Plus, no swearing, which just fuckin' ruins it for me man Oh well, I will always have my DVD's and its only a few weeks till Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

I hope like hell New Zealand doesnt pick it up - I watched the preview clips for the US version and it was pretty underwhelming.
Sometimes something good should just be left alone, and I think The Office is one of those things.
Its like if the US tried to remake Blackadder - that was fab because of Rowan Atkinson and his supporting cast; having someone else play Blackadder would ruin things. The office is Ricky Gervais' baby.
But I do hope he got phenomenally rich for selling it to the Yanks. But we won't mention money...thats gauche. heehee!!

Considering I'm part of NBC's demographic (18-34 year old male) and this is the first I've heard about it, not to mention that it's premiering in March/April and yet another Coupling-type remake....oh face it's dead. NBC either should just air the British original or just rip it off, put another name on it, and be done with it. Full Stop.

I wasn't impressed with it at all, but I'm willing to give it one more chance.

It was funny, but it still makes me compare it to the British version. I thought it would get better after the pilot, but it still seems so similar yet not quite as funny. I do like Dwight, though.
