I'm firmly willing to admit bias here, both as a heterosexual man and as an Englishman who remembers Hugh Laurie from the days of his comedy routine with Stephen Fry and his stint as Prince George in Blackadder and Bertie Wooster, but I have to ask - am I really the only one who's firmly bewildered by the 'Hugh Laurie = sex symbol' equation? (Mind you, I suffer the same confusion with Eric Bana as well) As for the show, I meant to tune in this week to see what it was all about, but forgot. Bum. As someone half raised in London, who thought Bertie Wooster was painfully annoying, and couldn't tolerate the silliness of Blackadder,*** it's a constant surprise to me that I find Dr. Greg House so damn sexy. But I do. It's not just the character, and it's not just Hugh Laurie's brilliant blue eyes. Perhaps it's a combination of the two but even that doesn't quite explain it for me. There is something else and maybe I'll figure it out one day. As for Eric Bana, have you ever seen "Black Hawk Down" ?? I have, yes. But unfortunately, I'm both (a) still a heterosexual guy and (b) remember Eric Bana from his days as an Australian comic playing obnoxious game-show hosts and tabloid T.V show anchors, so his sudden rise to 'Hollywood superstar' status just hit me with the ultimate 'Huh?! Whu?!"reaction. Hence my confusion .

I am so psyched! Last night's episode of House featured a guy I went to high school with in the 1970s - Dan Butler, a character actor who was a regular on Fraser and was in Silence of the Lambs and two episodes of Quantum Leap. I always get a kick out of seeing Dan on the screen, as I remember him when he had long red hair (he's fairly bald now).
In last night's episode, Dan played House's med school nemesis, Dr. Weber.

I taped last night's episode - I'll be sure to look for Dr Weber!
I had the show on while I was on the phone, so I got to see the action without knowing what was happening. I think it helped me to figure out why I was reluctant to watch the show initially. Between the maggots and House waking the guy up to scream in misery, the visuals were creeping me out. I'll be curious to see when I watch it to pay attention whether or not it'll still creep me out. But I think it's images like that which initially made me think it was a very dark show.

In fact, my husband watched the second half of last night's ep with me and his comment at the end was "That's a pretty dark show."
But I enjoy that aspect of it. And I won't give anything away, but I thought the last scene was pushing the boundaries (in a good way) of the typical cheery and squeaky clean tv show (as opposed to cable). Woah, baby!

So the dad from tonight's episode is supposed to be Joe Simpson, right?

So the dad from tonight's episode is supposed to be Joe Simpson, right? YES, I was not the only one who thought so! When House started reading out of that magazine, I immediately thought of Creepy Pa.

The description of his daughter's breasts was ickily similar.
Cuddy's got some balls of her own placebo'ing House.

Plus, how many times recently have we said Jessica is mannish looking? Hee.

It reminded me of that Law & Order: SVU episode, called "Sick," that was based on FUBAR as much as it could possibly be without resulting in a lawsuit. Foreman quietly bitchslapping Creepy Pa Simp the father was one of many episode highlights.
