When are these Germans from dethroned families going to quit with the Prince/Princess bullshit. Germany stopped recognizing royal titles after World War I.

Are there any good books about the Mughal emperors? I read about Jahanara Begum, daughter of Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Sounds like a fascinating figure. Most of William Dalrymple’s books. If for the women you didn’t read Daughters of the Sun: Empresses, Queens and Begums of the Mughal Empire, that’s also good.

For a lot of them, it's the only thing that they have going for them. If they didn't call themselves prince or princess, they'd be nobody (not that a lot of them aren't anyway), but the titles matter to them. It's the same with Russia- at this point there isn't a Romanov who counts as the head of the family, as all of them were born from marriages that wouldn't have been recognized or accepted by the tsar, but they continue to squabble about it among themselves.
