It might not have gotten to that point if she didn't do the dinner service and took time to ice and elevate. Why couldn't she have gotten that night off to better her chances for improvement? She certainly had a valid excuse. From a medical standpoint the series of events made no sense. I know lots think she was being classy and all that, but I didn't see it that way. What I saw was someone who was enjoying their moment in the spotlight far too much and eating up that sympathy and admiration like it was candy. Something was off about the whole thing. Man, I am being such a cynical bitch.

No, I thought the whole thing was strange. Other contestants have had injuries that were severe and they were allowed to sit out a service, because GR ALWAYS shows deep concern and respect for time to heal or a time to step back.
Obviously, if after that time there was zero improvement, then they have to evaluate it at that time.
It was a little early in the game to have such a 'dramatic' moment.

Here's my super-cynical take: This show is faker than a three-dollar bill with George W. Bush's picture on it. I still watch though because, well, it's on when nothing else is.*
Ji's sudden "decision" was ridiculous. She had a sprained ankle -- if, in fact there was anything wrong with her at all. I've never known anyone with a sprained ankle who required the assistance of a wheelchair.
I felt bad for the overweight guy: "Hey! We're going to Catalina! And YOU get to ride the ferry...then get back on it and ride home!"
*I DVR it...I have to watch the Office and 30 Rock before this show!

Hey, I forgot about that!!!
I'm still laughing at his comment, "Hey, what did I win, a ferry ride?"

Is anyone watching this season of Hell's Kitchen or is it only me? This is the first season that I am watching this show. Is it me or are these chefs very inferior to the Top Chef contestants? Do they always cast a bunch of psychos? That crazy dude tried to go after Gordon in the last episode. I wonder if he is going to find work again. I somewhat disturbed by the amount of food they waste on this show. Any thoughts on the new season?

I'm watching too, even though I know most of it is staged. There's no way psycho guy isn't an actor, along with the first lady that got eliminated. They were too insane, and inept. HK is more about entertainment, than cooking skills. Last season there was a buffet waitress in the running. 12 out of 16 are usually there for Gordon's antics and our entertainment. I've watched the last 3-4 seasons, and I am also disturbed by the amount of food wasted. Not just in reward trials, but particularly in the elimination trials. The scallops that are burnt. Lamb chops massacred. Pasta dumped. And whatever Gordon sends flying to the floor. I hope they make a very generous donation to a food bank. If I want to see professionals make cuisine, I watch Top Chef. If I want to see a half-wit try and pass off tainted food while Gordon Ramsey loses his shit and call people Donkeys-- I watch Hells Kitchen. Also, I'm loving that they seem to be beefing up Jean Phillipe's role this season. Good for him.

This show is made for snarking. Even the narrator is in on it. My son and I have a great time watching and playing MTSK3. The super dramatic previews alone are hilarious. This season we have fire trucks! Ambulances! Men confronting each other with knives! Fingers that may or may not have been cut off! Oh, the drama.
I agree about the wasted food. Of all the shenanigans this show pulls seeing what is often perfectly edible food being tossed in the garbage of flung across the kitchen is the only thing that makes me cringe.

I never watched this show put decided to try it out this week. Holy cow my blood pressure went up, what with all the yelling and almost-fights! I did laugh the majority of the time, but damn-no one is calling me a donkey.

Man, Gordon doesn't call the chefs donkeys enough for me. He has gone away from that term, and I miss it.

Oh, the superlatives. "This is the worst filet I've ever seen!" "You are the most inept chef I've ever worked with!" "This is the best risotto to ever come out of this kitchen!" "This is the most disgusting dish I've ever tasted!"
And next week, the MOST SHOCKING HELL'S KITCHEN TWIST EVER!
I prefer "doughnut" to "donkey" but that's just me. And dudes, the new intro is seriously creeping me out. Yuck.
