Just watched it, so I haven't had tons of time to process it, but I can say that I really liked it. And yeah, I think Starbuck is an angel. Before Head Six & Head Baltar showed up on modern-day earth, I just thought that the corporeal Six & Baltar were a couple of narcissists made for each other since they both thought they were leading people. The kids kissing the robot at the end majorly creeped me out.
Two things made me ball like a baby.
1. Starbuck saying goodbye to Sam - just after Natasha Richardson's death seeing someone say goodbye to someone who was essentially brain dead was really hard to watch (for me.)
2. Laura dying and Adama kissing her hand and putting his ring on her finger as he cried. Man, that one killed me.

So, in post-interviews, Ron has said that the initial breakdown for the finale included Athena and Helo to die and have Hera be raised on Earth 2.0 by Baltar and Caprica. Which I would have been sad about their deaths at first, but it would have been the better story choice as it would tie in with all the Opera House visions from the beginning - and didn't Six at some points say she was their child and Baltar would raise her?
Also a really big error in the big picture - so early on, they went to that Temple with the arrow and they "stood" on Earth, right? And saw the constellations to follow, which included *our* Earth's constellations. So they follow them somewhat and it leads them to BurntEarth - how do the two earths have the same solar system?

Yeah, that would have made more sense. Never gave a damn about Sharon, but... Helo! No! As one of the only truly good guys, he just had to survive. I read that Katee Sackhoff wished there had been a Kara/Leoben resolution scene. You and me both, love.

I finally watched the finale online. (Shaddap! I was at SXSW that week, staying at a hotel with no SciFi channel!) I have one reaction to that finale:

I hated the finale. When Romo brought up his surprise there wasn't an uprising against Luddite Lee's stupid 'no cities, no technology' idea I thought he was going to start it himself, or at least throw up in Lee's face. Either response would have been appropriate. Instead of coming to terms with their technology and learning to use it in a responsible and respectful way they ditched it altogether. They learned nothing. Shame on them and shame on Ron.
I bet the survivors lived short, brutal lives and died of dysentery, predators, infections, broken legs, complications of childbirth, and other injuries and illnesses. (They indicated Hera died as a young woman.) Bleh.
Great show. Terrible ending.
