So do we jump the gun and start a Caprica thread?
I'm about half-way through the pilot and hope it gets picked up; the creators have some interesting things they could explore given a longer arc. And how psyched was I to see an explosive early scene filmed in the neighbourhood I'm moving to in Vancouver! Also, wow, lots of boobies.

I watched it on Monday, and can see (a) why it was straight-to-dvd (the first thing you see is boobies) and (b) it's got possibilities. In some ways, I'd prefer they focus on Adama, because I find his character more interesting than Greystone, but since they need to develop Cylons, I won't get my wish.

I was just wondering if I should bother with this - but I guess it's a yes?
As a straight female, I don't particularly care for boobies - but I have had a crush on Eric Stoltz for over 20 years.
And his character is named Daniel, right? Like the 7th Cylon?

I just rented the DVD tonight and I liked it a lot, which I was surprised at, considering I'm still not sure how I felt about the BSG finale. I certainly didn't mind the fact that Caprica was more emotional than action-oriented, and it drew me in quickly. I, like everyone else, was wondering why there needed to be so! many! boobies! but hey, I don't think they were thinking of female viewers when they wrote those scenes.
I really liked the information we got about the Taurons and the sort of stereotypes that followed them. I'd love to know more about the other colonies, too.

I won't be watching Caprica because I know how the story ends. Not well.

Well, after watching the whole thing, I'll adopt a Wait And See attitude. There's a lot to be said for featuring a killbot named Zoe, complete with the soul of a 16 year old girl, though. I was totally struck by all the locations I'd been walking around in Vancouver's Yaletown last week, too.

I got the DVD from Netflix and have watched it three times already. I give it a B+ as a pilot and I will be watching.

I really enjoyed the Caprica pilot, and yeah, boobies and moaning and girl on girl action – guess they had to go there for all the hetero guys. Whatever. I found that part of Caprica very cliché and boring, so thank God they moved past that crap and got to the good stuff (hinting at Tauron and other colony back stories, etc.)
I think that Zoe saying, “Daddy” post-Cylon download was the creepiest thing I’ve seen this year. And the sad themes continue which is what I love about Ron Moore’s shows. The frantic conversation between Adama and his dead daughter in the virtual world was absolutely heartbreaking. Esai Morales really sold that scene. I also love how little Bill Adama is already super practical and stoic.
This was a fascinating look at what people will do when they can’t face their grief, when they don’t want to let go of someone they love. The road to hell really is paved with good intentions. Can’t wait for the series.

Between watching the finale of BSG and the pilot of Caprica, I think, for me at least, knowing the ending is something of an advantage. I liked the finale of BSG for the most part but the ending didn't sit well with me. We've followed the characters for characters for so long and cared about what happened to them only to find out that they've all been dead for 150,000 years anyway, so it doesn't really matter what has happened to any of them.
(Plus, wtf was up with everyone agreeing to live caveman style? I mean, granted, if I had been living in a spaceship for years, I would appreciate the fresh air, but after about a week I would start to miss TV and phones and well, electricity in general. I imagine that one can only pee in the bushes so many times before you start pining for that flushable toilet that's now being flown into the sun.)
With Caprica, at least you know things aren't going to go well for the characters. It's not that you're pulling for them to succeed, like on BSG, but instead you know they're doomed and you want to see how they get there. In the end when everyone's dead or screwed over (except lil' Willie) I don't think I'll feel cheated out of anything.

I actually was satisfied with that aspect of the finale--in fact, I was secretly hoping that this would all turn out to be something that took place in humanity's distant past. I would've preferred, say, the colonials arriving on our earth circa 8,000-6,000 BC, perhaps helping the natives on the way to civilization. Given that so many colonials were living as refugees on the Galactica and elsewhere, with basic necessities and not much else, they had little to lose in the first place. They may have welcomed the chance to start over.
