She is a devoted fan of colon hydrotherapy--I know because I was the receptionist a few summers ago at the place where she goes. Tabloids even caught her walking out of there. She was really petite, looked just fine without makeup, and was very friendly--so if she is a monster on the set she must be bipolar, because she treated this lowly employee very nicely.
I can't say that about some of the other celebs I met, who ranged from "quirky" to out-and-out "jackass"...

I liked her performance as Ava Gardner in The Aviator. Cate Blanchett got all the praise and press but Miss Becksdale was very good too. Miss Becksdale had the breathy Ava Gardner voice down pat (the MGM school of acting taught her to talk like that and took away her North Carolina accent) and also that unnatural stillness of a Harrell photo that Miss Gardner affected in her films (also courtesy of the MGM school of acting). In an interview for Pearl Harbor, Miss Becksdale spoke about her imperfect non-Hollywood body. She had just come over from Britain to do the movie. I date her body image issues and her attempts to perfect it from that move and that comment.

Well, I am perfectly willing to name names when it is a nice story, but out of deference to my former employer, I would have to post the bad stories as blind items....so I guess they should go in the "Guess Who, don't sue?" thread?
I reiterate, though--Kate was a sweetheart to me. Even her assistant who booked the appointments was nice.

Whoa! High praise! I guess I should finish watching the film. I turned it off when Hepburn (Blanchett) met Spencer Tracy.

I remember reading that she suffered from anorexia when she was a teenager. I don't think Michael Bay knew about her past eating disorder (why would he?) but he made some comments about her body and I think it really hurt her. She probably has a lot of body issues and has had them for quite some time, but I do agree that trying to be a mainstream movie "babe" probably caused her a lot of anguish that pursuing a career in smaller movies wouldn't necessarily have done.

I think that she was very good in the Aviator too.
As for her body issues after going Hollywood--I honestly don't feel bad for her. She was a grown woman in her late twenties (and a mom too) when she started doing big mainstream movies, so it's not like she didn't know what she was in store for her. She could have had a perfectly lucrative (and more respectable, IMO) career if she stayed in the UK and kept making smaller, more intelligent films. She wasn't some babe in the woods when she chose the Hollywood starlet path, and she shouldn't winge when she's subjected to what everyone else in that life is subjected to.

I agree, jaghetersimon, I don't like reading about whinging. If you don't know that is what Hollywood is about, then you're an idiot. It's all superficial. That isn't going to change...

She looks pretty good in the plaid-shirt shots, but in the rest she's nothing but a fleshier Victoria Beckham. What a waste of a once-beautiful woman.
