Did anybody else watch this? I thought it was very smart and funny. I really liked it.

I wasn't sure if I would like it. I didn't think Rock's comedy would do well in sitcom form. I was wrong. If I had a Tivo, it'd be on season pass.

I saw (via the DVD packaged in my Entertainment Weekly) the pilot & thought it was amusing & would watch the show again.

It had the right combination of sweet and serious. Talking about what his dad went thru when he went to school and how it didn't compare to being bullied by one kid - so he doesn't mention it, that was awesome. So good! I love that Chris does the voiceover, it really works.

I thought it was great: funny & clever. Damn, little Chris is burdened. There's some pain behind that comedy, but the show has a bright, cheerful tone. Somehow, that stoicism made me wince for the kid even more -- thru the giggles, that is.

Being the oldest I could relate to the "emergency adult" situaion.
It was pretty good.

I loved it. I watched it with my seven year old son and we were both laughing and he understood the meaning behind the show. I can see now that my favorite characters are going to be the Mom and Dad. Tichina Arnold is always good, and I'm glad to see her get work.

I loved this show. Chris Rock's humor is always on the money.
Here's what I related to; when young Chris was taking the bus to school and he was the only black person on the bus and the white people wouldn't sit next to him, not even a pregnant white women. Sadly I've seen that happen today in NYC.

I thought it was great; maybe I'm just happy to see shows coming out that are set in the 80s.
I thought the white woman refusing to sit next to him was unrealistic; do you really see that today, Neurochick? I live in a CT suburb and I do remember one woman once choosing to stand on a Metro North train all the way back to CT from NY rather than sit next to me back when I was in college and I had purple hair, but you know, that's CT. I can't imagine New Yorkers being that unpragmatic.

Well I don't think a pregnant woman would stand up but I have seen people who choose to stand, on a crowded bus rather than sit next to a black person, especially a male. BTW, I would have sat next to you with your purple hair, goodness folks can be so ignorant.
