Ok, since I have come to trust bstewart's suggestions on TV and movie viewing, I'm watching Misfits, and am I correct that the characters become more likeable? Because other then then Chav and Simon, I'm not really liking them, at all. The Irish kid needs a good, solid, smack (or 20) upside the head. I liked them better towards the end of s1. By s2, I liked all of them, though the Irish kid still needs to be smack soundly and repeatedly upside the head.

Your assessment, kateln is spot-on, and I think that's the intent of the show: to introduce a half-dozen thoroughly-unlikeable, young ne'er-do-wells with the hope that they'll learn and grow as humans with their extra-human powers. As the series (so far) plays out, it all happens, with varying levels of success. Simon rocks hard by the end of S3 -- that's not really a spoiler, is it? -- and Nathan's arc brings a greater degree of responsibility while not necessarily diminishing much of his assholishness.
As Witchie and I have been commenting, I think the problem is that Robert Sheehan is a really hammy actor (see also his sexually-abused hustler BJ in "Red Riding") so I kinda want to smack Nathan so hard that Sheehan hurts, too.

I finished s3 of Misfits yesterday too. Curtis was my favorite this series. I like that he got a significant plot line and I'm looking forward to seeing what he's in for next series. I liked Nathan! Yeah, he was an ass but I always found him entertaining. Also, when I was in England in the fall, I went to see Sheehan in a play (Playboy of the Western World) and he was pretty good. And really nice when we chatted him up after. He's better looking in person too.
I am tempted to check out Sherlock but Benedict Cumberbatch has such an off-putting face that it makes me reluctant.

I think Cumberbatch vaguely reminds me of Jeremy Brett. I'm LOVING Sherlock. ETA: oooooh! I'm watching S1E3 of Misfits right now. There is a mistake! They're all standing around the piles of donated clothes and trying to plan how to steal a car to move the bodies. Nathan pulls Alisha and Curtis in and says they all need to work together. He touched Alisha and nothing happened! /end spoiler ETA again: Ahhh, thanks bstewart. That makes sense. I got all excited that I'd found a mistake.

I'm interested in checking out Sherlock so I went to Netflix and noticed there are only three episodes available. Were only three episodes produced?
What other British shows are worth checking out? I'm already into Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, Law & Order: UK (which I'm rather behind on so I accidentally spoiled on a major plot point that left me wanting to go cry in a corner) and Being Human.

MrsCatHead, I watched that episode with a friend I was turning on to the series just this afternoon (!) and noticed that but am pretty sure there was no skin contact. Was that vague enough not to hide in a spoiler? ;-)
PS for Sherlock fans: if you get a chance to see the unaired pilot from the DVD, check it out. It's basically the first episode but shorter and not as awesome, so don't spoil your First Time with the pilot. It's pretty good, regardless, though.

Sherlock is awesome--and I can't wait for it to come back. I highly recommend watching it. The chemistry between Sherlock and Watson is great, the stories were entertaining, and the supporting characters were well done as well. Rupert Graves was a fantastic Lestrade, the antagonistic relationship between the police and Sherlock is fun to watch, and Sherlock and Watson's landlady is hilarious. She kind of twists the dotty sweet old lady act on it's head--especially when you consider how, according to the story, she and Sherlock first became friends.

MrsCathead, I've seen that debated and the consensus is that he touched her. Since it wasn't scripted, it was ignored.
I'm so excited for tomorrow. What time is Sherlock on? Through the Misfits fandom, I discovered an iPlayer that allows me to watch UK shows in real time. Love it!
