I never understood why there had to be that endless fight between the two fanbases. I understand when there's some sort of love triangle or something, and people pick their favorite and dig their heels in, but that was not the case here. It's not like they were competing over anything. shrug. I always loved them both, but I do understand how they both can come off badly in the press.

I was a Gillian Anderson fan because I thought she was a great actress. I was not a David Duchovny fan because I thought he was a horrible actor. I agree with celest, they both give bad interviews. A lot of actors do--actors are often (I might even dare to say mostly) insecure and awkward when not in character and/or when forced to talk about themselves. However, I have never heard an account of Gillian Anderson being outright rude to or verbally attacking fans of the show, which DD was a bit infamous for back in the day. He may have been joking at the time, but it's still stupid to say things like that about the people who made you who you are. He also made some disparaging remarks about GA (the "blow-up doll" comment) that didn't sit well with fans either. I'm not sure what started the warring of the fanbases; all I know is that it was very polarizing and you either had to be on one side or the other. It permeated everything (just like it's permeating this discussion here ). There were certain sites that were very pro-DD or pro-GA, but I can't recall many that were neutral. The animosity is, I think, very much a by-product of some love triangle, but since I was never a shipper or anything close to that I don't know.

I never understood the big deal with the "blow-up doll" comment. DD was being interviewed and was walking around the Fight the Future set and passed the mannequin that was used as Scully stuck in that tank. He said it was the GA blow up doll. It did kind of look like a blow up doll with the mouth all open and stuff. I guess I just don't get why that was sooo offensive. But a lot of people took it to mean he hated GA. ??

So, in other words, GA has free license to say whatever she wants (as in this latest interview) and you will interpet it in a positive light because you admire her acting abilities? And on the other side, you will view anything that DD says in a negative light because you dislike him as an actor? That makes about as much sense as anything I have ever read on any Xfiles board, I guess... And seriously, I am not trying to polarize anything or anyone. I happen to be a fan of both, and just continuously fail to see what all the fighting is about.

I happen to be a fan of both, and just continuously fail to see what all the fighting is about. I'm not attacking you, and I'm sorry if you thought it came off that way. I don't really see what the fighting is about, either. What I guess I failed to explain is that I was probably predisposed to like her and not like him when I got into the online fandom (that was so polarizing). I didn't say she can say whatever she wants. They both have come off like asses in interviews, but it doesn't change the opinion I have of either one of them as an actor. She comes off flighty, he comes off arrogant. Doesn't mean they are that way in real life, and it doesn't mean they're not. As for GA's latest interview, I didn't see anything that indicated she was ungrateful for the show's success or fans. She clearly isn't a fan of TV to begin with, she was burnt out from the heavy workload, and doesn't feel like revisiting that. That's how I read the interview. The only bad thing she had to say was about "Hollywood Squares." I've read interviews with DD where he did attack TXF and its fans, granted this was a long time ago, so I can't give any specific examples, but they came off as pretty snotty. Take for example the blow-up doll thing...IIRC what caused the uproar was that when the comment was published in People magazine, the context was left out and all it said was, "Duchovny described a doll with its mouth open as 'The Gillian Anderson blow-up doll,'" implying something not-so-nice. IIRC, it was in the same article that he was whining about GA asking for pay equal to his, which came off pretty mysoginistic. Of course, the blow-up doll comment didn't mean what People implied it did when matched up with the context, but the rest souned bad.

This thread is heading towards snarking on other posters' opinions - please stop that now.

Wow, five years and several gazillion residual checks later she's still bitter? Girlfriend really needs to let it go.

I loved the Xfiles when it was on the air. And I also loved both characters, Mulder and Scully. I also happen to like both actors as well. So, to me whatever happened behind the scenes, happened a long time ago, and that was then and this is now.
DD seems to have lost whatever bitterness he may have had, but GA still seems to have some issues. Or maybe this journalist just caught her on a bad day. Who knows?
All I do know is that I would love to see a second Xfiles movie and in this lifetime please! ;D

This shit was long ago and it made her rich to boot. Why is she complaining about it now? I liked Mulder and Scully but I always thought the actors who played them were both morons. Sounds like GA still is. I have no idea about DD; I haven't heard much from him ever since his attempt at a film career went the way of David Caruso.

Well, if they're both saying they'll come back for another movie, they can't both still be that pissed, can they?
Anyway, back to the show...what were your least favorite episodes?
