Besides Home, which was creepy as all get out, Humbug (with the circus freaks) stands out to me as a good stand alone episode, with a some humor that you normally don't see in the X-Files.

The show was on for 9 seasons, and they did 24 one-hour episodes, which takes about 10 months. I think it is a big deal to essentially move to a foreign country for 9 years (or 8, ultimately, for Duchovny). And he really didn't put his foot down about the Vancouver issue until he got married and it meant he couldn't live with his wife.
I can't really blame the move to LA for the decline of the show because around season 5 is when a lot of TV series go downhill. (Syndication deals are made after Season 4, which allows the original writers and producers - who are usually burned out - to leave.) The show lost me when the "mythology" basically started going around and around in circles.

It's coming back!!!!!!!!!!1!!1!1Seriously, I'm excited. I think six episodes is a great idea. That's enough time to do a substantial story but not so long that David and Gillian would dread getting stuck in something they were happy to have moved on from. I dug out my "Barbie and Ken as Mulder and Scully" special edition dolls in celebration. I can feel my self really dorking out over this.

Holy crap! Is six episodes enough to squeeze in Krycek and the Lone Gunmen though?

I am surprisingly optimistic about this! Weren't the Lone Gunmen killed off? I can't remember what happened to Krycek. I hope they do more stand-aloneish episodes rather than the mythology. Or maybe do a reboot and keep the overlying arc a lot simpler. That was never my favorite part of the show the first time around and it got extremely complicated by the end. I'm assuming they are just going to pretend Doggett and Reyes did not exist I wonder if Gillian Anderson will go back to the red hair for the show. She looks fine as a blonde but Scully is a redhead damn it!

I prefer my Scullies to be ginger!
Perhaps they can hire the guy that did Lizzie's wig over on Blacklist.
Dogget is in Scorpion now, but I bet Reyes will make an appearance.

But they were so much fun, and if any show could successfully resurrect them, it's this one! Krycek was killed by Skinner, but his ghost came back. I'd be okay with that. He was so much fun to watch, particularly the way he and Mulder interacted.

I think the intention is to stay away from the mythology, which is a very good thing. It was a freaking mess at the end. I just hope they get Pileggi to come back too, he's awesome. When I saw the second movie in the theater the moment he showed up got the most applause out of anything else.

This gives me time to start rewatching the series. I faded out the last season or two when Duchovny wasn't there full time anymore. I was sort of okay with Rob Patrick but I *did not* like Annabeth Gish in the role. I honestly hope they don't bring any of the "new agents" back.
I started watching from the beginning a year or so ago and I stopped. The series started in 1993, which was my senior year in college, and I found it depressing to see how dated the fashions and technologies (no cell phones!) were and it made me feel old. This inspires me to give it a go again, though.

Tentatively optimistic?
I saw the most recent XF movie and it was so, so, SO BAD. Xzibit was the most pleasant surprise, which should tell you something. Hopefully the TV format will be a return to the glory days.
