I've been optimistic about the reboot even though I have no reason to be. The last movie was not good, the last 3 seasons were hit and miss to put it nicely. Chris Carter hasn't done anything interesting since the show ended. And the promos haven't been too inspired. And yet for some reason I've been looking forward to it. The first reviews are in and they are dire. Critics have only seen the first episode so maybe it'll get better. Sounds like its going to be alot of alien conspiracy which was always my least favorite aspect of the show. I'll still watch but consider my expectations lowered.

I'm totally excited. I'll be sitting in front of my tv and talking to no one, just like I did for 7 seasons or so.
May be harder now with a husband and kids...

The kids and I will go entertain ourselves as far away from the tv and leave my husband to watch in peace. He is pumped for this.

TV critic Alan Sepinwall has seen three episodes, and he said that they get better as they go along, which is encouraging. But he also said that while there are some high highs, there are also some serious lows. Eh. I'm still in. I'll always love The X-Files.

I'm conflicted. I really have no plans to watch, but I'm curious now to see how bad it's going to be. TV Guide is claiming it's a...series, though? I thought it was one-shot six episode experiment/vehicle for Duchovny and Anderson's other projects.

One of the episodes is written by Darin Morgan, and Chris Carter hinted they may address the "Is Scully immortal?" question. I gotta see those two things.

Woah. Darin Morgan back at work. (Nice.)
Hey, is William B. Davis back? I was randomly wondering this morning if he would make an appearance, given that old adage Carter loved to throw around back in the day--"You can't kill the devil." Then again, they blew him up in an explosion in the series finale, didn't they? I'm hoping he stays dead.

Great re-visit/review of I Want To Believe at the A.V. Club.

As part of the whole pay inequality/race issue with the Oscars, I just read that for this new season, Fox initially offered Gillian Anderson HALF the salary they were giving Duchovny.HALF. For SCULLY. In THE X-FILES. Not talking about when the show first started out and she was a brand new 23 year old baby with little experience and Duchovny had the storied career (consisting of, uh, The Red Shoe Diaries and a tiny part on Twin Peaks) coming into it, we're talking about this season that starts airing on Sunday. Fox eventually woke up and gave her the same pay at Duchovny (I'm assuming after she laughed in their faces), but why on earth did they think they could even go there?
