Yeah, I agree that the etiquette class was weird. What so white people are the only ones with etiquette? Whatever. I'm trying to think of a better "stereotypical white boy" thing to do and I can't. Mall? Just being at the mall?
Although to be honest, most teenagers are treated horribly by store owners so I don't know that his life would have been that different.

The show is kind of meh, but I do like that one gay black guy, Chad. He seems like the kind of person I would hang out with.
ETA: On second viewing, I did think the black couple sometimes read too much into certain things. They seemed to take insult or have a problem with every single thing. Especially with the white mom, I don't think she is or was a racist, I think she is just very out there.
ETAII: I truly believe that this show will only serve to bolster opinions that people may already hold. That white people are clueless when it comes to race, and that black people are over sensitive. Which are exactly the sentiments that each family had in the beginning.

The white mom is really reminds me of a lot of people that I went to my college and law school. Good granola zen intentions, just a bit misplaced. Black people are different from each other (not all are about pumping fists, Black power, Baptist churches, or saying, "my sista"). This show sucks. I wonder if the show will delve into deeper issues such as racist stereotypes that occur within each race against itself? Why would it be a problem for a black girl to like the Cranberries? Should she feel bad about that? Grr... I will go back to watching FOL. At least that show breaks down the barriers regarding trampy women (all races have trampy women).

I loved seeing the parents flip out on their son. They should have taken the time out to raise him than be on tv. He has some real problems, $150 for a watch? How on earth did he get $150 when he is kicked out of school? Maybe he has a job but he should be taking that time to do some self-study.
