Jon Hamm saying "banjo" was the funniest thing I saw on TV last night!

Jon Hamm is just perfection. How can someone be so good at both drama and comedy? Amazing.
I liked this year's episode better than last year. This year was more of a sketch show and I think it was more suited to a live format.

I'm not a habitual 30 Rock watcher (Mr. S is), but I laughed till I cried, and then laughed some more, at last night's episode. Hysterically funny.

I'm glad I got the Sir Paul version here. Alec truly looked surprised when he popped up. If I'd got a Kardashian, I'd have probably put a foot through the screen. I read about John Hamm before seeing it, so I was expecting something more shocking when people were creating a minor furor over him being in "blackface". I thought it was hilarious. I trust Tina and co. to do dance on the line, but never be offensive. The bib overalls and shout of "BANJO!" slayed me. I was disappointed that Dotcom and Grizz didn't really do anything. They're better than Tracy most times.

Yeah, I liked that it was the laziest blackface ever - just slapped a wig on him and smeared some dirt on his cheeks. Presumably to assure early TV audiences that it was indeed a white guy. And it's pretty sad /hilarious how close to reality that is - one look at classic Bugs Bunny cartoons shows that entertainment was pretty effin' racist back then.
And I am super-bummed that we got Kim Kardashian instead of Sir Paul. But I admit that I laughed when she told Jack that she broke his toilet.

I don't think it was really blackface, it looked to me like a couple of smudges on his cheeks and that was it. Plus the entire point of that bit was how offensive such behavior is. Totally not deserving of any furor.

They have both the West and East coast versions on NBC.com.

I honestly don't think Alec Baldwin knew Paul McCartney was going to walk through that door. He looked absolutely gobsmacked. That kind of "so surprised and thrilled I'm going to pass out" face can't easily be faked. And no wonder--can you imagine if you rehearsed with Kim Kardashian and then a BEATLE walked through on the live take?!

You all on the East Coast got Sir Paul McCartney, one of the most important artists of the 20th Century, and we on the West Coat get Kim Kardashian, one of the worst examples of what entertainment is in the 21st century. Something is unfair here.

At least we got Brian Williams for the newscast bit. Not that a double-dose of Hamm is a bad thing, but Brian Williams is so great at the dry deadpan delivery.
And I think on the West coast run they got the rhythm down a little bit better (waiting for the audience, etc). Not entirely sure that makes up for swapping Sir Paul for a friggin' Kardashian.
