Same here. He could've gotten Dexter the psychiatric treament that could've prevented him from becoming what he is, instead he basically made him a weapon.

I really thought that Deb finding out about Dexter would be the end of her being in love with him but no such luck. Ugh. But for that storyline I am enjoying this season.

I just watched the season finale and I don't even know what to say. Holy crap.
I cannot imagine where they're going to go from here.

Seriously. I figured the season would end with La Guerta dying, but I had no clue Deb would be the one to do it. She is going to be all kinds of messed-up next season.
I caught part of a behind-the-scenes thing afterwards, and apparently Jennifer Carpenter improvised the part where Deb runs over and cradles La Guerta's body and starts screaming. Her acting has improved so much over the show's run.

That was such a good finale! So many questions unanswered. I think, ultimately, Deb is going to have to arrest or kill Dexter. Fundamentally, she's a good person with a strong moral code and I can't see her letting Dexter run loose for a few more decades, code or no code.

I read that about Jennifer Carpenter too, and seeing her do it just gutted me. Ugh. I wasn't surprised that LaGuerta died (especially since I read the first "Dexter" book and she dies very early on in the book "Dexterverse"), but the way it went down kind of shocked me.
I always kind of thought it would play out sort of the way it did in S1 or S2 (can't remember which), where Dexter imagines what Deb would do if she found out, and in one scenario, she shoots him and in another, she arrests him.
I just can't see Deb killing him, although this show has shocked me many times before. But I also don't see how she can arrest him, given the fact that she's a killer now, too.
I have to say, I'm also surprised by how fast Deb went from unequivocally telling Dexter what he did was 100 percent wrong, to asking him to kill Hannah. Clearly, finding out he was a serial killer really did a number on her.
I'm also surprised that LaGuerta didn't say, "Arrest him" to Deb, she said, "Shoot him." Maybe she knew that was the only option -- that one of them had to die?

I felt really bad for LaGuerta and Deb. Her cradling the body was really sad.

What an improvement from the last season finale. The writers must have a dozen potential scenarios to sort through. Seeing Deb cradle LaGuerta made me immediately think that she will be unable to live with the guilt and become suicidal or extremely self-destructive. Now hearing that JC improvised that part of the scene makes me doubt that since the writers didn't intend for Deb to be so overcome with compassion and guilt in that moment. It's still hard to imagine Deb being anything but a complete mess, though. And now she has seen first hand the lengths Dexter will go to protect himself and abandon his code. He's a straight killer without the redeeming quality of being a justice-seeking vigilante.
I'm liking that all the little missteps Dexter has made in the past are finally catching up with him. It's been a little frustrating seeing him take major risks and make stupid mistakes and inexplicably get away with them over and over again. I don't think it was established whether Angel believed LaGuerta's charges against Dexter or not. If he didn't before, he likely will now. I have no idea what role Hanna will play in all of this. Obviously there are plans for her since she is on the loose.

Two questions: What did Hanna choke on?
Also, were the flashbacks to the romance between LaGuerta and Doakes real? I remembered them being close/flirtatious, but didn't realize they were public with their attraction.

Omg, Dexter... Deb has basically shut you out of her life over the trouble you have caused her by being a serial killer, so you bust in and stab the guy she is staking out (/screwing/whatever)?! Yeah, that's sure to fix things between you guys! Great job. And him leaving Harrison in the car while that's going on... well, Dexter was never going to win father of the year or anything, but now he's worse than ever. At this point I am ready for him to just be locked up and for Deb to be the one to take him in (although she is way too tangled in his web now for things to work out smoothly that way). I feel SO bad for Deb.
I was really surprised LaGuerta's death seems to be so cut and dry to everyone.
I am intrigued by this Dr. Vogel character.
