Wow, Russell's got a lot to say about a lot of things, huh? He's really pulling no gay-atheist punches this time around, with those kinda-contrived -- but darn hot -- intercut sex scenes and the anvillicious reference to the HIV-as-a-manageable-disease rationale for unsafe sex AND the whole "driving force" behind the should-be-deads. Was there a "next time on Torchwood" that I missed? I'm wondering when the aliens will be showing up.
ETA: I thought Jack's hookup looked familiar! Toronto lad!

The Jack / bartender scene was so hot. I love beefy guys, especially when they've got no clothes on.

Speaking of familiar dudes and locales, I am VERY disappointed that they apparently filmed in Downtown LA and I never saw them. And am also sad that I've never had hot gay sex with Captain Jack after meeting him at Golden Gopher (which is not even remotely a gay bar, despite it being so for this episode).
Neither bartender nor Barrowman fit my definition of beefy (that's reserved for, like, Ray Stevenson or Joe Maganiello or Ben Cohen) but, yeah, hotness.

I thought the bartender was pretty beefy - although the side-on naked shot was prety brief. I enjoyed it anyway.

I'll just have to rewatch, rewound and slow-mo to make a full judgement on his beefiness and/or his "beef." Yay for On-Demand!

Too funny. That's the EXACT screengrab I took to send to my "who wants to watch that Doctor Who kid's stuff?" friends.

Rex needs to take Esther to a Malibu cliff and say "either the cellphone goes into the Pacific or you do". I vote the latter. Bleh. Mid-series episodes can be so uninspiring, and this one didn't disappoint in disappointing. It seems like the layers of politics and allegory are being glued to the story, not organic outgrowths.
Nice cameo from C Thomas Howell, though, who's becoming unrecognizable (which is a good thing for an actor). I hope he reappears, growling through shredded larynx. I kinda liked Gwen's Palin impersonation in the park, just this side of blatant.
I think I'm loving Lauren Ambrose most of all. Her character is so craven, so vile and self-serving, yet her utter disgust with Oswald Danes -- how creepy was his holding the smiling baby aloft? -- is as as strong as her ambition and ulterior motives. Also, if I was straight I'd totes have the hots for her.

I agree with you about Esther. The folks on IMDB were all up in arms because Rex hurt her fee fees and made her cry. I was just glad to see a display of common sense.

Wow, C. Thomas Howell was impressive -- I've always thought of him as a lightweight, acting-wise, but he was creepy as all get-out. (I did keep screeching, "Take the gun away from him!" after Rex saved the day -- Dead Is Not Dead any more, regardless of what the Tea Party might tell you. Bstewart, I had the same reaction to Oswald with the baby girl ("Wonder what he's really thinking ... no, wait, I don't want to know"). Sweet Jebus, the end of Mare Winningham's Palin knockoff (right on the money, only a billion times more articulate, sheesh) is going to give me nightmares tonight.
