They edit Doctor Who? What on earth for?

They're edited for time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Doctor Who airs for a full hour in England. However, since BBC America runs fifteen minutes of commericals every hour, the episodes get pretty hacked up.
I always felt like stuff was missing from each episode, but it was confirmed when I read a synopsis of the uncut version of "The Empty Child". I was like, "Yeah...I don't remember that entire scene."

That's weird. As far as I know they're only 45 minutes (although the Christmas special this year was a full hour).

I think usually on a channel that runs commercials (ie everyone but the Beeb ) you only get 40 minutes* of actual programme per hour. They must edit it down by 5 mins. * I may have pulled this number out of my arse, in which case ignore my entire post.

Grrr...somehow that bothers me even more than if the show normally ran a full hour. Like when shows are edited for syndication: they already had commercial time built in, but let's throw in some more! Every minute of Captain Jack is precious!
With the TV airing, though, hopefully Torchwood will be released on DVD in the U.S.

Since I'm anal about stuff like this, all of the episodes this season ran from 42:55 to 51:21. The Christmas specials, historically, nudge the 1-hour mark. So LC wins a 2-week dream vacation cruise with David Tennant.

Glad to see that the LOL*wood was a hit. Here's a clip from Dead Ringers, a sketch comedy show's spoof of Torchwood. So... when were the UK Greecies going to clue in the Yankee contingent about how nasal we sound to them??? ;D
