Could you even freakin' believe her? Nice - dumps him because he got the part and she didn't. Way to be supportive.
The other one I really had to scratch my head over was the 44 year old mother auditioning for Sandy! I mean - really now! You think lights and makeup are going to make you look 17? I mean - compare her to the 50 something guy who showed up looking to audition for the part of Coach Calhoun. He was told no, sorry, we're only auditioning for Danny and Sandy. Okay, sucks to be him - but at least HE was self aware enough to go for a role that suited him! He didn't then turn around and say, "Okay - I'd like to audition for Danny!" But this other lady? A reality check - and alot of mirrors around the house, like that one judge said! Ouch! Cruel, but true.

The audition shows were pretty brutal, but I'm hoping once they get it down to the actually talented people, it might get interesting. I'll give it a shot for a couple of weeks, anyway.

Who will be filling the other roles? Will it be actors that auditioned the regular way with a few well known Broadway stars to fill in the gaps? I would think some of those people that didn't make it to Grease Academy (*is that affiliated with Ronald McDonald Uniersity in anyway?*) would be able to do background dancing and singing. I also though a few of the darker haired girls might be good as Rizzo or Jan.

True - but Rizzo's a pretty big part, so they'd have to at least be as talented as the Sandy girls. So if they're "not Sandy", they might not be Rizzo either. I could see less talented and being Jan, though.

It would be interesting to see if they did that. Did they do that with the British version for Sound of Music?
At first I thought the 40-something mom was just doing it to show her kids that you should never give up on your dreams but then when she sort of fought with the judges about her dismissal I was like "OK, reality check is needed here."
The competition for the Sandy's appears to be far more fierce than the competition for Danny's. A lot of the girls that got turned away appeared to be more talented than the guys that stayed if that makes sense. Like with the couple---they were both about the same level of talent but they had far more talented girls auditioning yet he was pretty much near the top for the guys. Sad really.
And while I don't think that they should go crazy with the casting and put a 48 year old obese woman in the part of Sandy, I wish that they weren't just keeping tons of Olivia Newton John/John Travolta clones. Other than the hairspray guy did they even accept one light-haired Danny? It's like they'll see someone who looks vaguely like Olivia Newton John and they get all twittery even if she can't sing that well.

Yeah, he's light haired, but I'm placing my bet early on him. I think this is his contest to lose.

My old high school is doing Grease this year, and there was a huge controversy when they chose it because it's not a traditional musical and is too pop. But that is the exact reason why this musical is a good choice for a reality show - people watch more movies than they do stage musicals, so more people will be familiar with it.
I wonder how the voting will go. I'm confident that someone living in Small Town, USA with little to no professional stage experience will win over someone who has had more stage experience, because that's just what voters like and people love a rags-to-riches story.

Hairspray tour guy was really cute and is my favorite Danny so far. There were several good Sandy contestants but none of their names stick out in my mind.
The problem with this and AI, for me, is that I feel so embarrassed for half the people auditioning. What kind of parent raises their child and lets them think they can sing? I guess I'll be heartless because I'd rather my child know off the bat that they suck before setting themselves up for televised humiliation. These people are pretty old to still think they have talent, hasn't anyone ever pointed out to greasy long haired crotch thrusting Danny that singing isn't something he should do in public?
The 16 year old Megan who was a bit overweight and couldn't sing well, why did she show up dressed like that? Wouldn't you want to be dressed nicely and not have grungy chipped nail polish and raggedy hair? You are trying to impress these producers and help them visualize you in a set role. First impressions are so very important.
