The Starter Wife

After being bombarded with TV ads for this, I was dismayed to discover this morning that it is NOT just a single show or movie, but is a 6 hour mini-series!!!

AWWWK!

I never watched "Will and Grace" and Messing does nothing for me. Even after being forced to watch endless commercials for this opus, I really don't want to watch, especially now that I find it's 6 hours long.

Problem is that I really like Joe Mantegna.

It appears that the main character is dumped by her movie exec husband and eventually ends up with either (a) some younger hunky blond guy that I've seen in beach scenes or (b) her husband's boss, played by Joe Mantegna. The big finale appears to be having said woman walk down the red carpet with her husband's boss.

So, the question is... at what point in this 6 hour extravaganza does Mantegna appear? I really, really don't want to watch any more than necessary.

By any chance has anyone read the book?

I have this set on my DVR. I'd heard it was a miniseries which is odd. At first I thought it was just going to be a made for TV movie . . .

Messing looks like she's balding in some of the shots in the add. Like her hair part is wider than it should be and the hair is too thin in the front. Methinks she should lay off the red dye for a year or so and give her hair a rest.

I actually read the book. In a day. Because it's fluffy poolside reading.

Seriously, there's just not enough "plot" for a six hour miniseries.

But my roommate and I agree -- Messing is all wrong for the character.

I've read it too and I agree with huntergrayson, both about it being way to light of a book to fill six hours worth of screen time, and also about Debra Messing. As soon as I heard she was playing the lead I was like, WTF?

But alas, yes, I will be watching.

I thought this was going to be an entire series.
Joe Montegna looks hot in this and that's why I'll be watching (if it ever airs in Canada)

2 hours tonight, 1 hour on June 7 and June 14, final 2 hours on June 21. Or so I've heard.

I checked the book out but couldn't get into it. So I'm going to watch 6 hours of it on TV instead. Cause I'm easy and it's summer and the good Thursday night shows aren't on anymore!

Yesterday I spotting a group of women in matching white and pink sweat suits with "The Starter Wife" written on the back, plus matching pink uggs, walking the streets of West Hollywood. Good thing I haven't been bombarded by commercials or I may have been tempted to run over those nice ladies.

Slate has a good article on the excessive marketing here[/url] (not really spoilery and it says it's *awful*) -- Ponds had its people in the writer's room! WTF?

I forgot about the biggest change they're going to have to make from the book -- since it came out in early 2005 (and therefore written much earlier), the "hot young thing" he dumps the wife for? Britney Spears. Oh, how times have changed.

This show is bad. The only person who's acting method seems to be more developed than mere rapid line recitation is Judy Davis's, and she looks miserable.

But Debra Messing is gorgeous.

Oh my god. I saw a group of women outside the Water Tower here in Chicago dressed in matching pink sweatsuits with pink uggs and just assumed they were a bunch of deranged tourists who decided to dress alike and I avoided them.

I watched the first hour. It was eh. About what I expected. But she's totally balding when she parts her hair. Totally. Her hair just looks fried in general though.

Judy Davis looks weird. Weirder than normal.
