After watching two episodes (Iceland and Big Island, Hawaii) I can totally believe he gets a little "help". Also his "survival" skills are not very useful and seemingly quite dangerous. I will use the Hawaii episode as a perfect example (spoilers ahead).
Initially, he gets air dropped in the middle of a lava field ( I am not sure how that could happen to an average person unless, your helicopter crashes) and walks through the area with emitting sulfurous gases, using only his t-shirt as a mask. At a certain point, his boot catches on fire, but he continues to walk on, despite of the blisters on his feet. He destroys an African killer bees nest to get the honey and goes through a lava tube to find a water source. I wish in the end he would say "if you are ever in this situation, there is high probability that you are going to die".
I also don't like his assumption that it's all good if you find a paved road or highway. That Oregon couple, were lost on a highway and weren't found for 4 days. I do think the episodes capture the unforgiving nature and bleakness of the environment though.
On a superficial note, he does have a nice ass. The camera seems to linger on it whenever he climbing or moving about.
