Everytime I watch one of these type of shows I wonder how a lot of these people can afford all the fast food they eat. It's such a huge waste of money.
There are lots of reasons why adults allow themselves to get this way, but there's no excuse for allowing your child to. With kids the old adage of "eat less and exercise more" actually works. They have a faster metabolism on their side. It takes an actual effort of eating more and exercising less for a child to become morbidly obese unless there are medical reasons, which is pretty rare.

Oh yes, I want to squeeze his legs and call him "Mr. Tyler."
I'm so happy my kids have mandatory p.e. through grade 10. They're both pretty active anyway, but it's great for those rainy winter months.
ITA with everyone who's said the parents have dropped the ball in regards to enforcing healthy habits - especially with the table manners. Who wants to eat next to that?

Question- What was Kit wearing on her head when they went to her school? She looked a fool.

The worst part of it was the mom saying they were going to have broccoli that night but the restaurant was closed. I'm sorry single mom, but how hard is it to cook frickin' broccoli? It's less effort than having to order it and picking it up.
I feel for these kids, but also felt Mr. Tyler should have had some of the parents out there doing the exercises.
This show is really making me love Shaq. I've always liked him, always knew he was a good guy, and when he use to come into an office where I worked he was always a lot of fun to be around. But doing this? Just love.

Question- What was Kit wearing on her head when they went to her school? She looked a fool. My 14 year old son tells me those are anime goggles. They are supposed to look like the goggles the kids wear in anime shows. I personally thought she was trying to contact aliens.

Thanks Daisy! Her outfit confused me. I think it would go a long way for that girl's self esteem is someone dressed her better. Unisex clothes suck, damnit. And I went through that baggy pant phase too. Her parents should take her to Torrid or something.
They should definately take those goggles away.

I saw this show for the first time this week and really like it. Shaq is so sweet, and the kids are so sad. As for the parents, well, Kit's suck, and I can't believe that kid was allowed to eat four pieces of pizza. I also agree that some of the parents should be out there too, and you would think the parents would have done something about their kids at least 100 pounds ago.
eta: I just checked the TWOP forum for this show and someone alleging to be Paul Coyne's, the supervising producer, posted today. (I am sure it is him, but then again, you never know.) The post is pretty interesting and provides answers to some questions posed by other posters. One thing he said was that Walter is just socially awkward and does not have Aspbergers, as previously diagnosed by several posters.

Did anyone else see the final show last night? Wow, what a change in those kids, especially Chris and Walter. They are all not only more healthy, but they are so much happier. I don't think they all have good support systems though so I hope they can keep it up. Chris' and Kevin's parents did seem extremely supportive (and didn't it look like Chris' mom had lost some weight too?), but I'm not so sure about James' mom, and Kit's dad was nowhere to be seen on this show. Her mom was sweet though.
I never cared about Shaq one way or the other. But I love him now, too. He really did change those kids' lives.

I'm so proud of those kids. They looked great and more importantly they looked happy and healthy. I hope Shaq continues to have this challenge every summer, taking six new kids and then updating us on the others as well as updates how the programs they developed are being incorporated in the schools, etc.
I think these kids learned a lifestyle change that most of them will stick too. I do fear for James though. His support system does suck and he really seems to lack the self motivation he'll need to stay on track. I was worried about Kit too until I saw the clip at the end of her jogging on the treadmill. I was like "Go Kit!"

You know the more I hear about Shaq the more I like him. Good for him.
