I think he looks at least 5 years younger than his age in the GQ pictures. And even younger than that when he's dressed down.

Yeah, I still think he looks really young, but at least he no longer looks prepubescent. He's cute in the GQ photos. In the second photo, though, he looks like he's a) about to burst into tears, or b) about to kill someone. I can't decide which.

Blood Diamond looks like it could be a really good movie, but if the previews are anything to go by, Leo has to be putting on possibly the *worst* South African accent I've heard this side of Patsy Kensit in Lethal Weapon 2. That's what I thought too. The last movie he did that I saw a preview for I thought his accent was terrible, and this one is ten times worse. His accents suck, y'all. Miserably. I can't believe he can attempt to take himself seriously as an actor talking like that. Oh, and I agree that there's a significant liklihood that he goes after supermodels for arm candy. I really don't care for him all that much.

I really don't care for him all that much. I attended university in Cape Town and his accent really is not that bad. His character is meant to be from Rhodesia and he does well to mantain the slight English accent most Rhodisians have. Certainly it is not as convincing as Kidman's (she too was roundly criticised, much of which was undeserved IMO) but I don't think this should take away from the movie or his acting, which are both excellent.

I like Ted C.'s recent column where right after he discusses Leo, he coyly mentions that some Hollywood players are now flying to Eastern Europe for discreet escort-based kinky sex weekends. Which confirms my feeling that Leo's still kind of gross. I'm not a Tobey fan either, but Tobey at least seems to have grown out of the Pussy Posse phase.
I wonder sometimes if Leo isn't one of the oft-BVed A list closet cases. Something always seemed off about his romance with Gisele. Maybe because she seems to have zero personality. And now he's with that pre-pubescent-looking 21 year old? Gah.

But whether the accent is accurate or not, I still think it sounds really annoying. He annoys me enough in his own voice. Whenever he does an accent he just annoys me that much more.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think most Americans are exposed very often to English speakers that aren't British or Aussie, so frankly his accent sounds wonky. I don't care if it's accurate. Wonky.

I'm no expert but how was his Bahstan accent in The Departed?

I thought it was good, but I'm no expert. It wasn't overdone, which I liked. When Matt Damon does a Boston accent, it's all you notice -- totally over the top. Leo's was much more subtle, which is funny, considering MD is actually from Massachusetts.

I take back everything I said about Leo's accent. He was really, really good in Blood Diamond. I don't think the movie itself was that great, and the writing didn't do him any favors, but he was GOOD.
That said, can he please do a happy movie now? One where he gets the girl and saves the world? And most importantly, you know >>lives<<.
