I've lost a lot of respect for Dr. Drew with this. And while I agree with him on some stuff (not ALL women, but a lot of women in sex-related jobs have been molested. You can't make a generalization like "all"!), this is just... so icky. Sure, you can argue that some people need extreme help in cases like this, and I know his rationale is that soome of these folks couldn't afford rehab otherwise, but... icky. Isn't there some way to effectively help addicts without PUTTING THEM ON TV AS "ENTERTAINMENT"?!?
Sounds like a job for the Fem Thread...? I'd love to wrestle with some of these issues!
He also tends to hit heavy with the "if a boy is molested, he will grow up to be gay" thing, too, which I have problems with. Again, I think it happens in a lot of cases, but not ALL!

I just can't believe that Dr. Drew intended for Jeff to detox in that setting. He needed to be in a clinical setting not rolling around in a wheelchair mumbling and crying. He's withdrawing from daily hard core usage of opiates, cocaine, and alcohol for goodness sakes! On Intervention they send those folks to places that are specifically set up to handle withdrawal.

To be fair, Conway didn't seem as bad when he first arrived. He really did deteriorate after he got there and he was going to have mobility issues anyway because of his back problems - and I'm sure the years of drug abuse haven't helped.
I'm not sure how I feel about this show and Dr. Drew yet. It wasn't as exploitive and trashy as I thought I would be and it was nice to see Dr. Drew actually act like a physician. While it doesn't seem like a good idea to bring addicts on tv, I'm sure VH1's lawyers covered a lot of bases on that (like anyone coming back and accusing them of letting them sign a contract while they weren't in the right state of mind). It could be educational and eye-opening if handled correctly.
But still - I don't know. I just know it was uncmfortable to watch it. One of the people there is a porn star, so I'm sure Dr. Drew's molestation theories will pop up, and I've always been extremely iffy on that. I'm still at the "wait and see" stage with this one.

I've stuck with this show, and I have to say I am totally happy I did. It's a lot different than I thought it would be, and I think that Dr. Drew is pretty damn awesome. Anyone else watching? And, yeah, Jeff is still f'in frightening.

I watch and I feel very uncomfortable while I'm watching. I feel like I'm watching Jeff Conaway die right in front of a national TV audience. It's kind of creepy, but I'm fascinated at the same time.

I've been watching it too (though I fell asleep last night during the pool party - good thiing VH1 repeats all their shows constantly) and while it is certainly uncomfortable to watch in parts, overall I've been impressed. Everytime I start to think that Dr. Drew is just a big ol' famewhore, he does something that proves he actually knows what he is doing. While I think the pool party may not have been a good idea (or at least it should have had a much, much higher level of supervision) overall I'm really impressed with how he's handling the patients.
And man, Conaway is a sad, sad case. He was looking much better last night than he did at first, but I can't believe all the crap that happened to him as a child. No wonder he's so effed up.

I'm obsessed with this show right now. I've known so many addicts in real life, it's so hard to watch, but I can't stop.
It breaks my heart that things don't work out for Jessica, she seems so willing on the show to be honest about her problems and to really want to get help.

All I can say is that Daniel Baldwin is screwed! He was sending pics of himself and asked Mary Carey to send some back. He was then overheard the next day asking her if she had gotten rid of "those" and she better make sure she does, etc. He then proceeds to get on his high horse of 9 months sobriety and claim that the wet t-shirts in the pool are making him uncomfortable. He was upset that this incident caused his wife to get upset. Wait til she finds out about your nudie text messages, dude.
ETA: And Jeff Conway's girlfriend saying to him after a fight, "Are you wheeling away from me?!" Gold.

I like the fact that Dr. Drew has his no bullshit crew. His assistant (can't remember her name) and Bob Forrest. Both of them ex-addicts who know all the angles.
Bob Forrest used to be the lead singer for a band called Thelonious Monk. Years ago they opened up for some band I went to see. Bob walked on with a six pack of Corona and drank throughout the show. At one point he threw the mike stand in the air, and tried to get out of the way of it on the way down and it ended up crashing hard on his back. The stand ended up bending at about a 20 degree angle. He just carried on like nothing happened. Didn't even flinch.

ETA: And Jeff Conway's girlfriend saying to him after a fight, "Are you wheeling away from me?!" Gold. I think that was the funniest thing that's been said on the show, but their whole fight came off as very staged. This show has been more serious than I thought it would be. I'm glad that they're going to show the whole thing with Daniel sending Mary pictures of his package. He is such a douchebag. I'm sure his wife will be pleased.
