I'm going to see Huey Lewis & the News tonight.
For the, um, about the 25th time.
Yes, it's a sickness.

The Madonna concert last night was a-maz-ing. She started over an hour late, but it was a very good show. The seats were actually pretty good, but with binoculars I could see just how fit she is and it makes me feel like I should start working out (but I won't because I'm lazy).

Saw Pearl Jam & Tom Petty last night. PJ started about 30 minutes late, which always annoys the piss out of me. Pure and simple arrogance. (They played the same venue, so it's not like they were delayed in traffic or anything). The show was great, but PJ always puts on a great show. Played for about 90 minutes. Petty made us wait an hour. I think the stage was set in about 20 minutes, so it took Petty another 40 to get on stage. He came across as really arrogant and full of himself on stage. I was tired of dealing with obnoxious drunk people and having to smell the skunkiest skunk weed I have EVER smelled, so we left about 40 minutes into Petty's set. I have no idea how long he played. I was tired, had been up since 4:45 am and still had a 2+ hour drive home.

Okay starskin, I'm over in concerts for some Pete Yorn love.
He does have a new album coming out August 29th. He said "It's the best album yet, I can assure you of that" (So cute!) He also has an ep out now. I think it's called Western. It's got some rockabilly influenced stuff on there. He played a couple of songs and they were great so I'm definitely getting that.
He played "Take Me Out" by the Smiths. It was awesome. The first time I saw him in the middle of a Cure cover, some douchebag came over to harass me because I was at the show by myself. By the time I chased him away, the song was over. I was super pissed. So in conclusion, he plays some good covers. I heard there was an album out somewhere that was Pete Yorn doing covers that kicked ass. Do you know anything about it?

Now I'm jus' jellus. I've always wanted to see them live. What did they play? A few weeks ago I was at the festival Norwegian Wood here in Oslo, and most of the artists were Scandinavian so I doubt so many here have heard about them. Anyway, the first artist to play was Canadian singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright. Man, she sucked. First of all the music was incredibly boring, and second of all she got offended because not every person in the audience was listening to her. When you're scheduled to play first on a day where five other acts are playing after you, and most people aren't there to see you, you should just shut up and be grateful for the chance to recruit a few more fans. She said something along the lines of: "If you don't pay attention to me I'll be depressed. We don't want that." Eh, whatever.

Awwwww, but I love Martha Wainwright! She was so cute and folksy when she opened for her brother Rufus. Granted, that was at a House of Blues, which is a moderately-sized venue and not a festival. Man, that's kind of a bummer. I hope she was just having a bad day. I've cried more times than I'd care to admit to "Who Was I Kidding". hotransom, thanks for posting about Pete Yorn. I'm so excited to learn that he has a new album coming out. I liked Day I Forgot pretty well, but musicforthemorningafter stll makes contstant rotation in my player. He also played a Cure cover when I saw him, though the song escapes me at the moment. I don't know of any covers-only album, but I have his "Live at the Roxy", and he played a cover of 'Dancing in the Dark' and 'Panic'. I've also heard his cover of 'China Girl', which I really like (he sounds drunk on it, which adds a certain something ). I've liked every cover I've heard him do, so if there's a covers album, I'd be all about it. Man, now I have to see if he's coming to FL!

I can't stand Martha Wainwright--in my opinion she is riding on her brother's (EXTREMELY talented) coat tails. She performed Stormy Weather at Rufus' recent Carnegie Hall Judy Garland tribute, and she was a mess. The performance was over the top and the vocals were embarassing. The only thing worse is her original material.

I guess that means I stand alone in my affection for Martha. Ah well.
The Rufus concert that she opened for, btw, was fantastic. This was right after Poses came out, and it's one of the best shows I've been to. I missed him in Manchester with the McGarigle sisters (his mom and aunt), though. Grrr. Wish I'd gone instead of spending time with my then-boyfriend.
