Now I'm jus' jellus. I've always wanted to see them live. What did they play? This was my second time seeing them, and I have to say, I liked the first time better, but they were still awesome. Here's the set list. I still have to go and download the show (I did that with the last time I saw them too. It's nice to have that momento.) Last Kiss, Save You, World Wide Suicide, Spin The Black Circle, Given To Fly, Jeremy, Even Flow, Sad, Daughter/(W.M.A.)/(Ruby Tuesday), I Got Id, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Around The Bend, Indifference, Life Wasted, Alive, Smile, Rockin' In The Free World

I am going to see Ane Brun next week - hooray! She is a really terrific Norwegian singer, Scandinavian melancholia all around with a hint of funk. She's playing at the Bowery Ballroom for anyone who's interested.

I saw Madonna last night in Boston. It was her third show in Banknorth Garden that she added on and she didn't sell out.
Well, lucky me. I got to my balcony seats early and someone on the concert staff asked me and my friend if we could dance. We said yes and he handed us tickets to seats on the floor! The seats were fantastic and just in front of where Madge pops out of that giant disco ball.
I had a wonderful time but Madonna seemed a little miffed about not selling out. At one point she asked some people who had better seats than me and who, apparently, weren't dancing to her liking, "Did you pay for your tickets or did someone give them to you?" What a bitch! Anyway, the people answered that they did pay and she was left speechless. Haha.

Gosh Madonna, I wonder why you're not selling out anymore?
What a hosebeast. Makes me sorry I ever bought "Ray of Light" which is the only album of hers I ever owned.

I just came in here to brag that I saw Milli Vanilli back in their glory days (I was 14). And even though we couldn't understand a word they said when they spoke to the audience because their accents were so thick, it never occurred to us that they weren't singing the actual songs. Up until a few years ago, I still had the tour tshirt, which smelled like a box of melted crayons.

My first concert was a Motley Crue concert. A friend used to make fun of me for it - until I found out her first concert was New Kids on the Block. Not a leg to stand on.

My first concert was in utero. It was Elvis Costello.
My first concert OUTSIDE of the womb was The Monkees. I was five, and so so excited. And also confused as to why they didn't look like they did on TV. It explains so much about me.
The last concert I saw was Willie Nelson at a large park in North Central Florida. Nothing like hearing "Angel Flying Too Close To the Ground" while feeding a llama in a petting zoo. Oh, and Willie's son (one of the guitarists) was really hot and had red hair like his dad. Mmm.

So I'm talking with one of my rocknroll boyfriends today, telling him all about going to see Tom Jones the other night. I said "he only played for 90 minutes, but what, he's 70, so that's okay." - He just laughed. He said "this is why we like this tour - makes us feel young!" (his band is touring - double bill - with Chicago) And I said to him, "speaking of Chicago, the guy on the trombone? Pankow? Tell him to lose the Jack LaLane look." - bwhahahaha.... Seriously - the guys in Chicago are still dressing like it's 1984. Get with the program! They don't have to dress like they're on leave from the senior center, but really - Miami Vice called, they want Don's wardrobe back. On the concert note - Etta James was wonderful (she opened for Tom Jones). The only thing I didn't like was when she started getting her groove on. It's hard to look at someone who could, ostensibly, be wearing Depends doing the butt shake n groove - especially when she was doing it in front of her kids (her drummer and bass player are her sons). eek. Tom Jones would've been great, but the sound in the pavillion was terrible. He's definitely a good entertainer - even though we could barely hear him, he was fun to watch. I was kinda grossed out by the sweat pouring off his body, though.

I've liked all the concerts I've been to. But my highlights have been:
Miss Christina Aguilera - December of 2003. I remember loving her voice, except for her massacre of 'At Last' (particularly oversung and trilled on this occasion), and particularly her performance of 'Walk Away'. She sang this crawling along the ground, gyrating to the music and looking particularly tortured as a male dancer stripped in a cage nearby. Got veeery sexual between the two of them at the end, and everything was perfect, including Ms. Aguilera's voice. However, I thoroughly disliked her stupid faux-black accent that she used in an attempt to get 'cred' whenever she addressed the crowd. Particularly sweet moment was when her dancers came out with a cake and got the crowd to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Christina (it was her 23rd birthday that day).
Sarah Blasko - sometime in mid-2005. She's a little known and extremely underrated Australian female singer. Hard to describe her music. Kind of a cross between Sia and Emiliana Torrini? Her voice has the same gorgeous dreamy, breathy element as theirs, and her songs are wonderful. Live, she is breathtaking. Commanding when she performs and so sweet and mousy once she stops and talks to the audience. I'd recommend her debut LP, 'The Overture & The Underscore'; it's definitely one of my favourite albums of all time.
Boyz II Men - September 2005. Loved them as a kid (just to clarify, I'm 19!) and there was no way I was going to miss them in concert. They took fooorever to come out, but when they finally did, it was well worth it. Even missing one of their original members, they did an amazing job with every song. All their harmonies were spot-on, and they seemed so humbled by their fans. Awesome because the crowd really got into it, singing along and cheering crazily. Atmosphere was great, the boys sounded as good as they ever have, and they did all the favourites. A very crowd-friendly concert.
India Arie - April 2006. Shivers! Only word to describe this experience. Such a lovely lady and such an amazing voice. Sounds a billion times better than it does on CD, if you'll believe that. She did all the favourites, talked constantly to the crowd, and was just beautiful and glowing. 'Ready For Love' was the highlight of the night. Lots of ad-libbing and improvising (she improvised an entire song based on a word that an audience member yelled out) meant lots of surprises for the crowd. It was over waaay too soon. Only negative: no encore! And the crowd definitely stood and stamped and cheered for it. But she never came back! She did, however, stand at the back of the hall as everyone exited to meet and greet them quickly, as did her band and back-up singers. Ahhh. Lovely.

I just got back from Muse's concert. Oh Lord, it was amazing. Just...no words. I'll actually do a longer write up on it later, but Matthew Bellamy has never been better. It took fairly heavily from Black Holes and Revelations (their new album). At first, I was hoping they wouldn't do that because 1) I don't think it's *quite* as good as their others and 2) I'm not so familiar with it. At any rate though, they were freaking phenomenal. The Greek Theater was a perfect place to see it. I took tons of videos, and the sound quality isn't too bad, so if anyone is interested, I'll YouTube it sometime in the coming days...
