I love the old-school protest songs. There's something about them that just makes me want to stand up and cheer, as well as sob. They can be so moving. Yay for the little people! Down with The Man! ;D

This is some of the music I grew up on. My mom loved the Clancy Brothers, and the Kingston Trio, and so many others. My current favorites are Celtic Woman (I was watching a show of them last night on PBS), an Irish folk band called Beltaine from Poland, Christina Harrison, Kate Crossan, and S. J. Tucker.

Not exactly folk music but holy hell Riverdance is 25 today! I remember being at a bit of rock venue and they had on for a laugh the Eurovision on a few Telly’s about and the whole place ignoring this interval bit at first slowly go quieter just glued as it went on and the reaction in the pub at the end was mad everyone half diddly diddling and badly dancing until someone put back on some rock music and we bounced about. The day after it was talked about everywhere, Ireland also won the Eurovision that year too. Mad Fun times. I’m old now I need to lie down.

Also not quite folk music, but old-timey music is big in the PNW. My daughter played in a fiddle ensemble in HS and at their fiddle showcase last year the Warren G Hardings also performed. I liked them so much I started following them on instagram. (My daughter has already said she's thrilled she'll be back in Seattle in time for Folklife, and she plans to keep busking with her fiddle pals at the farmer's market over the summer.)
