I have an over here was it or not in america 80s Tiffany, i think we are alone now as big a thing over there as it was here and the whole popstars and Malls thing too and the Debbie Gibson rivalry business too. Pop magazines here were full of these too way back when ..curious fitz is curious😁 Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were a big thing here in the states. I can't remember if there was a rivalry. I wasn't young enough to read the pop magazines or attend mall appearances so I can't help you there.

I remember a rivalry, but I don't know if it was real, or just one of those "there can only be one" sorts of dumb competitions that funnily enough don't seem to happen between male artists. I preferred Tiffany* because I liked her songs better, and I didn't care they were covers. My best friend at the time far preferred Debbie Gibson because she wrote her own songs. I thought Debbie was prim and dull, and it's nice she was a musician and vocalist but I didn't care--Besty was a good singer (madrigals, a capella, etc) so it mattered to her. *to the extent that this is even a question because when they were on the radio, I was really into Sinead O'Connor. 1987 was an amazing year. And to that end, I've been listening to The Lion and the Cobra on a loop at work.

OMG you guys! I heard THIS song *once* in the 80s, and retained some of the lyrics but never heard it again or saw a video to find out the artist or the name of the song. Every now and then the tune and lyrics have surfaced in my brain, but I hadn't thought to try finding them online. Today, I found them online! And the song is...not that great, honestly, but a blast form the past and a minor mystery laid to rest. How I happened to come across this: I was in the RuPaul's Drag Race part of Reddit, and there is a clip of RPDR's Katya/Brian dancing to this tune. If any of that is intriguing to you, the link is HERE.Katya/Brian is a queen from season 7 who has been taking a break from drag to deal with mental illness and addiction, but seems to be doing well and popping up here and there looking healthy. They are pretty beloved by the drag race community, and I'm happy to see this clip. The dancing is perhaps not very rhythmic, but K/B seems to be having fun. A selection of comments from Reddit: hutchess "This is so rhythm deficient" truegoldninedaysold "It's like, rhythm agnostic" thepandaswillrule "Agnostic implies she knew of the rhythm and made an educated decision regarding its existence which I don’t think is true"

Love the dancing! Rough Trade's All Touch has been on my ipod ever since I got one. I'd love to know how you tracked it down- it reminds me of the time I was trying to find Las Ketchup - Asereje based only on the snippet I'd heard in the background of a restaurant the night before. The only things I could remember to use for a Google search were 'a hey, ha' type words but it actually worked. That was when I decided that Google really could read minds.

Hey, Mrs. Pickles! You mean I could have posted in the What Is This Song thread years ago and you would have clued me in? After watching the clip of Katya/Brian dancing, I confirmed the lyrics had "all touch, no contact" in them, and the song came up first try. The song isn't bad for an 80s song, it just doesn't live up to wondering about it for 30+ years. But I'll be listening to it again.

I know he is was and always be a Diva but that voice is lovely, haven't heard him in years I hope it hasn't been too damaged over time. And in the list beside on utube Church of a poisined mind

If this video were released today, it would NOT look like this and that guitar solo would be a rap interlude along the lines of "yeah, girl, let's get physical, ya gotta give me ma fill, yeah, girl, let your body talk and imma listen and give ya fillin."

I've taken to the 80s thread and TV channel to soothe and calm me..
Michael Hutchence in Never tear us apart video was very beautiful... Just thought I needed to say that out loud.
Also I fell onto him once he was coming out of a hotel off Grafton Street Dublin me not looking crashed into him said oh sorry and then froze, I'm sure I'd still be froze there now had his people not moved me aside. No idea if he spoke or anything..

Years ago someone gave me a "Best of Culture Club" CD as a gag gift... that thing stayed in my player WAY more than any gag gift had a right to. Boy George really did have a fantastic voice back in the day. Does it get more '80s than Miami Vice? I've been weirdly hooked on Crockett's theme, Payback, Evan, and other incidental music from the series lately. Jan Hammer was more or less writing a small film score every episode which is boggling to think about. Also, while not technically from the '80s, I absolutely LOVE the music from the Hotline Miami video game series (both 1 and 2), which is kind of a demented throwback to that musical era. One of the second game's tracks, In the Face of Evil, was even used in one of the Thor Ragnarok trailers.

Miami vice loved it. I'm sure I watched an episode Duran Duran or The Power Station in it I'm sure it wasn't just wishful thinking.. John Taylor and Crocket I mean surely that happened!
Edit It did I IMDBed and it happened I knew I didn't dream that one up 😂 now off to you tube I go.
Edit 2...Im about to fall down an Arcadia and Power Station, Duran side project shaped YouTube rabbit hole.. See ya!
