My guess is Birds of Prey will flop. It looks terrible. (and it sounds like they had to do a bunch of reshoots, never a good sign) My guess- it will do worse than Suicide Squad.
WW though- that I think will do well.
I hate that it is so hard to get women leads in films, but I also hate when a sh%tty film is propped up only because it has female leads (cough*ghostbusters* cough)
Black Widow- I have no idea what it will be about. The character bores me (but so do almost all Marvel characters) - I still think it will do well though. Marvel just seems to be able to make comic book movies that people flock to. And, I like that ScarJo is so vocal about not being asked the sh%tty sexist questions that she has to listen to over and over again. But... yeah- the Woody Allen thing- just... yuck.

Black Widow is a non-character to me. Leaving ScarJo aside for a minute, Black Widow has got to be one of the most inconsistently written Marvel characters. Just about every movie used her as "The Woman" with each set of writers/directors having different ideas of what "The Woman" was for that particular story. In a way, Scarlett's lack of range might have been an asset in helping the character feel remotely consistent... because otherwise, Joss Whedon's vision of the character definitely didn't match the Russos'. I think Captain America and Thor also had similar problems but the difference is that they were the leads of their own movies, so they got more development than Black Widow who was pretty much always playing a supporting role.

I like Black Widow/Natasha far more than ScarJo, and the failure of an established female superhero would NOT be good for future female-centered movies of any kind. And as dumb as she is, it's unlikely her acting would be what was wrong with the movie.

I don’t think she can open a movie as a lead; most of the ones that have done well for her, she is a secondary or ensemble player. BW, if it does well, may prove me wrong. For the Marvel Universe, hope I am wrong. I like the Carol Danvers character better, too.

My guess is Birds of Prey will flop. It looks terrible. (and it sounds like they had to do a bunch of reshoots, never a good sign) My guess- it will do worse than Suicide Squad. Almost all movies get reshoots. It is something as commonplace in Hollywood as botox, and they almost never means that a film is in trouble. Every single one of the MCU films had had reshoots (and all of them have gotten great reviews). Even Wonder Woman, the best reviewed, best loved film of the DC Cinematic Universe, had reshoots. I personally think that all three female-fronted superhero films opening in 2020 ( Wonder Woman 1984, Birds of Prey, and Black Widow) will be box office hits. Also, Birds of Prey can afford to do worse than Suicide Squad. It is reported to cost "only" 75-80 million dollars. Now that sounds like a whole lot to you and me, but it is a pittance for a superhero blockbusters, which usually cost over 150 million dollars. Suicide Squad cost 175 million to make (and grossed a worldwide total of 746 million, but he thing is that Birds of Prey is populated by "street level" superheroes and villains --Black Canary, Huntress, Black Mask, Harley Quinn--characters who don't have any kind of special powers (beyond being really good fighters) that would require copious amounts of CGI trickery or complicated FX (like, for example, the elaborate effects required for Suicide Squad's Enchantress, with all her sorcery, demons, and skybeam pyrotechnics. So, if Birds of Prey "only" grosses 500 million worldwide, it will be considered a gigantic moneymaker when its "small" budget is taken into account.

Yes, almost all movies have reshoots. (I might even guess all... 99%). It's common to go back over something where the lighting didn't work, a new line needs to be added, shot pacing is off, etc. It's not as common to have to go back for extensive reshoots. The reshoots (Birds of Prey) also included bringing on a new director. That's not so common place. It looks terrible, and I predict it flopping. (yes, I am bitter- I was excited for this. From the moment it was announced- well. as Gotham City Sirens which is the movie I actually wanted ;p- But each update had my heart sink a bit more... until the teaser, and seeing the costumes, and just... it looks terrible) If I am wrong I will readily admit it. (I don't think I will be though). ONLY saving grace (all IMHO) is that the new director they brought on is John Wick director. Still though- he will have to work magic- if he can.
Topic: ScarJo as Black Widow is so meh to me I care not if it flops... except I wouldn't mind Marvel to finally start to be taken down a peg or two- I'm so tired of the MCU.

I hope Black Widow doesn't flop simply because if it does, it'll be seen as an indictment of female leads, not just as an underperforming movie.

I don't think it will be an indictment. Wonderwoman did great.
