I do respect Zara and her brother for carving out relatively normal, non-royal lives for themselves.

I do respect Zara and her brother for carving out relatively normal, non-royal lives for themselves. I suspect their parents had a lot to do with that. Anne seems to have had the attitude that it's far better for them to be without titles and not dependent on The Royal Family Inc. (established 1066!) in order to support themselves. Contrast that with Andrew's attempts to get Beatrice and Eugenie on the Civil List and to acquire titles for their future husbands. He seems to think they need The Royal Family Inc. to succeed. Unfortunately for them, they're not in the direct line of succession and The Royal Family Inc. doesn't actually need them. (I'm differentiating between the Windsors as a family and The Royal Family Inc. which is really a long established business.)

I always laugh when people say Anne’s kids are living normal lives supporting themselves. Both live on Anne’s estate, which is supported by the Crown. Peter benefits from being royal adjacent. His company planned one of the Jubilee events. He got paid for his services. Zara’s horse connections came from Anne. Her endorsements come from the fact she’s the Queen’s granddaughter and an Olympian.
I love Zara and her little family, but she’s a Royal regardless of the lack of a title.

I think Beatrice and Eugenie would be great "full time royals" and would excel at the boring events like ribbon cuttings, etc. The royals are all cutting back tremendously on the number of charities they support (understandable for HM and Philip) so why not get Bea and Eug in there to help out?

They'd have to be added to the Civil List, and I don't think it would be a popular move at all.

Not to mention, there are enough people on the Civil List who could do more to pick up the slack **cough Will&Kate cough**
