The LW has been nice enough to give rides everyday to a coworker, now the coworker wants the LW to ferry her around on the LW's lunch break. The LW is trying to find a nice way to say no.

There's also a mini debate going on about car pools.

The LW should tell the moocher to take a hike.

So much mess here, an "open" marriage, alcoholism with denial about it being a problem. And yes, her mother and husband are dating.

I thought I should add, I put quotes around "open" because while that is what they call it, that's not really what they have, not because of anything to do with truly open marriages, which include lots of discussions, boundaries, possibly the explicit rule that immediate family members are off limits, etc.

Holy shirt!!! There is so much going on in that letter that I can't even.

That's one of the nice things about Reddit Relationships thread--anytime I question my life choices and relationships, I can read a few entries there and feel entirely justified that my baggage is at least carry-on sized and completely manageable.

You would think by the headline it would be very easy to sympathize with the letter writer. And yet. Don't get me wrong, what her husband and Mom did was terrible but both in her letter and Reddit comments the author comes off as a total nightmare.

The commentors at Captain Awkward considered that the husband wrote the letter, since the LW used such disparaging language towards herself. I also hope it isn't real.

Someone in the comments on Reddit also wondered at the self-loathing descriptions of the LW.
