I guess she could always rewrite the initial Anthony-Liz romance to have Liz passionately crushing on him, instead of the "Oh, yeah, I guess he's OK" kind of relationship we got the first time around. And I think "April" will be recast as Elly's pet hermit crab or something.

Lynn can't tell any other story because she's a lousy story-teller. Her strip has deteriotated with every step she takes away from the reality of her own life. If she wants to start a new strip it would have to be about the adventures of a 60ish divorcee.

You know, I would read that.

I would too, kanding.
It's kinda nice, though, seeing Connie not looking like Grandpa Jim.

I just don't understand why she wants to redo her strip at all. To a lot of people, the Pattersons are almost a real family. The fans know the story, the history, how it turned out, and face it, the real fans are the ones who will read the retread strip. I think she'll end up making changes that won't make sense in the long run, just because she's done that in the past couple of years. It's a huge mistake and messes with her legacy.
She should just have said, "I planned to retire in 2008, but after big changes in my personal life, I have decided to continue with FBORFW for now." I honestly don't think any newspaper or fan would have complained about an honest change of heart, plus they'd get the story to continue like so many clearly want.

The "new" strips are beyond boring. Today's final panel: WTF? That isn't funny or even clever. In fact, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Why does Lynn think this retconning is a good idea and how the hell did she convince even one other human to let her do it? WHYYYYY?!?!

The art doesn't even look like the old school art did, it looks exactly like what it is: someone trying to copy the old style.
I don't get the punchline either.

Lynn said the new/old strips would help her flesh out secondary characters, which I guess is why we're getting a week of Annie The Boring. Problem is, the characters' bios are already on the website for anyone obsessive enough to care. Most of them are so got-danged maudlin, though! Really, read Annie's. It will make need to snort Zoloft.
Also, 30 years ago, a mom and kids strip with a mild dash of occasional snark-lite was something new and different in the funny pages. Now, we've had Calvin and Hobbes, Heart of the City, Baby Blues, Adam at Home, and a bunch of others that give us the wry view of domestic life BUT WITH JOKES. Putting the old Foob up against new strips really diminishes LJ's legacy.

Lynn really hates kids, doesn't she? Kids are never shown being cute, or well behaved. My kids are only 15 and 12, but I remember their younger days fondly, not as a Bataan death march.

Does Lynn have grandchildren? That she sees? I know her Liz isn't married, but what about her "Michael"? Or does he live far away or is estranged from her or something? If so, then I can see how she is turning into one of those typical crotchety old bags who hate everything.
