I feel like after the intense season finale that her mom and sister are going to start turning a corner. Mary FINALLY stood up to them, which has needed to do forever. I think this season they are going to start being more grateful towards her.
But I'm mostly excited to see if she and Raphael are going to heat things up!

Digging this thread back up because the second season starts this Sunday.
I Netflixed the first season because there were a few episodes that I missed or only saw bits and pieces. Watching all the episodes back to back, I can see where Mary's mom and sister have some redeeming qualities (Brandi risked a lot calling the cops on the drug dealers in order to save the baby, and Mom repeatedly told Brandi to stay the hell away from Mary's boyfriend and seemed to own up to her mistakes at least some of the time), yet I still really want to kill them. Especially Brandi - her actions while Mary was kidnapped were pretty unforgivable. The girl really only can think of herself.
But looking forward to next season and to see if Dad will ever surface again. I didn't notice before, but when Mary said he was keeping an eye out for her, it must be a really close eye - he sent her a letter the day after her mother showed up in town and moved in with her. He's gotta come into play sooner or later.
And more fun with DVDs - when the obnoxious FBI guy blew into town and pulled the criminal records on Mary's family, both Mom and Brandi had pretty long rap sheets. Mary's had three items on it, two of them looked like they were probably for something like throwing a punch at someone (which would be just like Mary) but the first one on the list was for "lewd vagrancy" - what the hell is "lewd vagrancy"? Was Mary hanging out in doorways in her underwear?
It was also interesting to look back at the "love interests" or "potential love interests" across the whole season, and seeing that none of them are really perfect for Mary. Raph is hot and cares about her, but he's honestly attracted to Brandi too, and that can still cause problems down the line. Hot Cop will always get pissed when Mary can't give him any information on the people she's protecting. And while Marshall understands her and her job better than anyone else, he'd also lie down in traffic for her if she asked, and I don't think that's really a good thing either.

Did anyone else catch the season premiere last night?
I thought it was pretty good, and I like that they didn't just forget about Mary went through at the end of last season and she's having some PTSD issues.
Brandi and Jinx - well, I'm just glad they didn't get a lot of screen time. But Brandi looks like she might be finally ready to turn over a new leaf. Jinx? Not so much, what with her obsession with Pa Shannon's letters and chugging all the Three Buck Chuck.
Marshall continues to rock. And he was a seriously good friend to Mary while she was having her meltdowns without getting all sweet and goopy (which Mary would have hated anyway). And his little bit about becoming an "honorary black person" with Bobby D was hilarious.
Raph? Not in the episode, and I didn't miss him at all.

The episode renewed my lust for Marshall. And I forgot how hot Bobby D is.

I just caught the last ep "Rubble Without a Cause" but I missed the ending. Can anyone tell me why Ford's partner didn't kill him when he had the chance? Was it just Mary talking him out of it?

The ending was a little confusing, since I wasn't quite sure what the hell the partner's plan was anyway.
But basically Mary got him talking (while she turned on her radio without him noticing so that Stan, Marshall and the rest of the marshals could hear what he was saying and record it). She basically got him to confess to what he did, and since Stan had it recorded they nailed him and Ford no longer had to testify. Partner was arrested and Ford was relocated to Seattle.
I don't know if his partner really intended to kill Ford. It seemed like he was angry over his partner's betrayal and came to tell him that in addition to trying to talk him out of testifying against him. He said at one point that if he wanted Ford dead he would have done it a long time ago. But I still don't know how he expected to get out of that situation with a US marshal sitting right there. I thought it was a good episode, but the resolution was a bit of a head-scratcher.
There was another episode that has aired since that one with Richard Schiff from The West Wing playing a rabbi that was a much better episode. This sunday's episode looks really good and it looks like we'll get a glimpse into Stan's past. Anything to take the focus off Brandi and Jinx.

I thought last night's episode was pretty good, and nice to see someone other than Mary take center stage for once.
And I loved "80s flashback Stan" in his Members Only jacket.

I'm glad Stan and the office manager finally hooked up. Now it's Marshal Marshall Mann's turn at a story line.

Ok...who killed the cocktail waitress? Was she caught up in the killing of the comic? And Stan's girlfriend/witness was relocated without his knowledge? I watched it, but my head cold had me going WTF? at the end.
I love Eleanor. It's great having a nice, strong foil for Mary. Someone who takes her gruff nature and basically ignores it. And yay! for Eleanor/Stan romance.
