It is, but I think it's the expression on her face that just makes the look. It's like, "Yeah I put on a nice normal dress, but you know what? I could have turned up in a garbage bag with some random taxidermy strapped to me. Could have, and would have. And you all know it." Yes, I think she struck just the right note between her usual Edwardian whackadoo look (which I happen to love) and blending in with her castmates from Les Miz, which is really an ensemble piece despite the award love for Hathaway and Jackman. And her husband was actually nominated for "Frankenweenie", so she probably didn't want to upstage him on what was more his night than hers...

I would be so disappointed if she ever started dressing normally.
I was once in a theater lobby in London, and spotted a woman about 40 feet away with her back to me wearing a linen waist coat, green granny boots, and a giant rat's nest of hair. She didn't even need to turn around, I knew it was Helena. It was so cool.

I love the awkward, "get me outta here" posing though. She's not here for the cameras, hah.

That is amazingly restrained for her.

She looks so...normal. Good, but normal. Is there a picture of her shoes somewhere? Are they at least mismatched?

HBC doesn't seem to be in the fashion industry, but if she were, it'd be a hoot to see her at the Met Gala. Her outfits would be (even more) crazy.

She looks so...normal. Good, but normal. A few years ago there was a terrific made for TV, sort of spy movie called Page Eight. It was done for the BBC and starred Bill Nighy and a crap load of top british talent like Michael Gambon, Ralph Finnes,Rachel Weisz, Felicity Jones and others doing their usual top british acting. This year there were two back to back sequels- Turks & Caicos and Salting The Battlefield. Again with Nighy and Finnes and people like Winona Ryder and Christopher Walken. But the biggest surprise was that Bonham Carter was in both, a bit in Caicos and full-on costar in Battlefield. It caught me off guard at first because she looked like a total, normal business woman. No wild hair,no goth make-up, no black Victorian dresses and through both movies I kept thinking " Damn, she looks great."
