I guess I'm glad I never watched Alias, now!

I'm on the West Coast and still in the process of watching, but this "dangerous experiment where the pretty lead lady gets a dangerous drug cocktail from a crazy scientist so that he can mess with her dreams" is straight out of an episode of Alias. Is it a bad sign when JJ Abrams is ripping off his own show for his new show? When I saw the hand in a jar in the season teaser, my first thought was "Is JJ Abrams watching Torchwood and will there be cute cuys for Joshua Jackson to mack on?"

I guess I'm glad I never watched Alias, now! I watched the first 2 seasons, but, listen, as long as the word "Rimaldi" doesn't make its way in, I'm good. Anyway, I liked it. It seemed faster paced than the leaked version I saw, and there was at least one scene added (plus better music).

Is it a bad sign when JJ Abrams is ripping off his own show for his new show? Hee, I thought that in the opening sequences which reminded me of the Lost pilot. And Fringe has the same wanna-be eerie, background music they use for tense scenes that Lost has used for every past season. I was hugely surprised by the Mark Valley reveal. Didn't see that coming at all. The lead actress looks so, so much like Naomi Watts when in side profile. The mouth is extremely similar from all angles, but it's kinda distracting to me for some reason. [/nitpicky /weird] I love the actor who plays the FBI boss guy. He was, btw, was also used in Lost's past season on a few occasions as a creepy guy involved in a conspiracy. But I really hope he's not the mole or bad guy here, as Agent Scott implied. I've liked the actor for a while now. I think I first saw him in HBO's Oz.

I liked it a lot. I hope it turns out to be something really good that actually gets to stay on Fox (since they kill everything else). JJ always kills off someone in his pilots, doesn't he? Some choice phrases from the ep: "Suit up." (Someone's been watching How I Met Your Mother.) And "We need to make some LSD." or whatever. Hilarious. Josh Jackson was my first movie boyfriend. The nerdy Mighty Ducks. Ahh, good times.

I only watched the last 1/2 hour last night (Cardinals/Cubs game was on and it slipped my mind), but even just that was pretty good. I'll have to catch the replay on Sunday. I guess this means I'm ready for JJ Abrams to frustrate the hell out of me yet again. And yes, I kept shouting, "Charlie Conway!" He'll never be Pacey to me. Also, "Denethor!" and "Jack!" (Mark Valley was on Days of our Lives.) *hangs head in shame*

I read that Fringe's debut numbers barely (very, very barely) squeaked passed some competitors. And in a Washington Post article, they talk about how Fringe "unraveled." Uh-oh. Given that they apparently spent $10 million (!) on the premiere and given that it's on cancellation-happy Fox, that doesn't bode well.
I should have known; every time I really love a show, it gets canceled. <sigh> Yes, I'm still bitter over Threshold and The Nine.

Maybe it was just my tv, but I could barely hear them half the time. It was a mumbleathon. The actor who played Dr. Crazy Genius was CHEWING UP THE SCENERY! Love him.
You really had to work at suspending your disbelief, but overall, I liked it.

It won the key demographic, 18-49, though, and has House leading it in next week.
