Maybe this should go in the Unpopular Opinions thread, but I loved A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Dave Eggers has kind of gone off the rails with the McSweeney's thing, but I thought AHWOSG was brilliant.

I loved it too, hikertrash. Some of the postmodern/metafictional stuff was a bit much for me, but the basic story of Dave and his brother was just lovely and so affecting. I went to see Eggers do a reading a few years ago and got him to sign my copy of AHWOSG. I had carried it with me on a backpacking trip through Europe and told him about it, so he signed it, "Glad to be with you on your journey, my friend."
A girl in my book club started bitching about Eggers when we suggested reading What is the What the other day and it made me mad. I think he's a genuinely talented writer who's also done a lot for the causes of literacy and the Lost Boys. Don't go dissin' my Dave!
